Seems like no matter what question is asked, the answer is always IC:

I have a civil war muff clone and it takes palm mutes pretty well.

I have a Black Russian BMP that's modded to Civil War specs and it does take mutes pretty well. (It's also currently for sale. :duck: )

Did you mod it yourself? I'd love to mod one of my black muffs to be more like a CW, hook me up with the deets. :hug:

It was done by Ryan of Fuzzrocious Pedals fame. I got it used from him a little over a year ago.

Just thought I'd point out that this thread just had 66 replies and 666 views. Then I had to go and ruin it.

A decent triangle should palm mute fine. I can't remember offhand what the magic cap values are, I'll check and get back to you. I have a Foxey Lady sitting here that needs a new tone pot that sounds real interesting ... not really muff-like, lots of top end, and not much of a scoop.

Russians tend to be too woofy, so all you get if flubflubflubflubflubflub ...

Took me the longest time to figure out the secret of muffs ... turn the bloody thing down a bit. I had always run with Sustain on full, then I figured out if you chuck it back to 3/4 or so, it's a much more subtle beast.

Inversely, if you dime all the knobs on a Black russian, yeah, sure, you can palm mute all day!

that being said....the big muff deluxe is the one i like the most. no one else seems to like them so i guess it's up to me to give them love.

I'm pretty sure the Deluxe Big Muff was an IC Muff. Is that correct, dev?

yes, Deluxe Muff is an IC Muff and a Soul Preacher.

also, to the Palm Mute question;
The Jordan Creator (a very early Muff clone) can do this really well.
I know SUF makes one and so does Mahoney.
both sound pretty good, from what I remember.

First Muff I had was '70's(not sure, but I think IC?). Traded it. 3 years later, got a Green Russian. Which,to me,sounded pretty. Very rich, round, and full. However, the lack of Square wavey-ness led me to the NYC Re-ish,then a little Big Muff. Then(though not purely a Muff) a Devi Soda Meiser. Out of all those, the SM was my fave. Kinda eyeballin' that FuzzHUGER4 that Tommy's makin'(though it's not purely a Muff either). I really did enjoy all my Muffs though. Wish I still had the Green Russian

My favorite so far has been the Diceworks Muff Diver, though I will admit I haven't played many of the usual suspects. This one is based on the triangle with a switch for a circuit that the builder believes to be the mod that Cornish performed on David Gilmour's muffs. I might have liked a vintage sovtek green muff a friend of mine has just about as much, though.

Yup, IC muff + a compressor. There were a couple of different versions but I don't think you can turn the compressor off on either of them.
