What gauge? I've never had them brake but I use 1.14mm. Now fender heavies... last about a set for me.

I think like .73. I'd break one every single time my band played this one song, including practices. So, I started with like twelve, and now totally have none.

That one was a .71 and it's the first pick I've ever actually broken.

Flailing like idiots, I presume. In that one song, I'm just smashing away at a power chord on bass.

Fingerpicking is ultra cool. I wish I was good enough to know how to do it.

Well, start out just using your thumb and index finger. If I'm not mistaken, that's how bluegrass banjo players do it. It can seem pretty intimidating at first. But if you just start slow, try your basic chords, then you'll get a feel for it.

Yeah
No.
I use flats, and I only use the very tip of a pick so I lose tips on anything other then Tortex and Ultex, I like 1mm + because the lighter ones warp if you accidentally run them through the dryer
I don't play supper hard
Also I use three sided picks so when I break a tip I just turn the pick... or through it at the drummer... I'm really good at flinging a pick and hitting a cymbal from about anywhere... now I don't do it all the time... but those that play bass "know" why...
