Amanda post-Dolls really frustrates me sometimes, but I find it hard to put my finger on what's grinding me.
Not yet. I haven't really had the chance to pick it up from Amazon. It was saved in my wish list after we spoke about it in the old Doom Room last year some time.
I greatly enjoyed her recent album Theatre Is Evil. It's an opus full of wonderfully sculpted songs—but it's not Who Killed Amanda Palmer.

I've not listened to it yet. I find it easy to compare WKAP and the self-titled, because they both comprise of songs written over time with nowhere to go, and the best ones went on these CDs, but the Yes, Virginia songs were written FOR the album, and No, Virginia had all the songs that weren't good enough to go on WKAP or Yes, Virginia.
She's best when she's writing for the love of it than writing for something, which I see as a tad contrived or rushed perhaps.

I have to disagree with the contrived and rushed points. Theatre Is Evil really was, at least to me, a labour of love. That can be exemplified by not just the TedTalk but by the hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, the new band's origins, and their wide-reaching touring schedule. The songs that are on the album feel extremely polished, but also real and natural.

Fuck Amanda Palmer. Anyone who tries to avoid paying musicians is a bad person.
Props to Maggot Brain, an ILF'er who got on the KWC/Zozobra bill in Albany NY. New Zozobra is rad--and not just by virtue of being "not Amanda Palmer."

Vidret and Wood Wizard, you guys have both put me off the idea of an sg entirely now. So now I'm confused. And yeah, Wood Wizard, thats why I generally prefer neck throughs. Also, I really liked the concept of that new Gibson midtown, but fuck that shit they're making fretboards out of these days. That killed it for me. That and the price. That guitar retails for near $3k in my town and just looking at it...its just not finished to that standard. Also I've had good experience with the gotoh tuners, but I've only used Schaller stop tails before. They make good stuff either way.
Actually, I was pining for a neck through sg and the only thing I could find was an incredibly obscure lawsuit era knock off that was made in Japan and marketed to Canada. I think the name on the headstock was Mann (?) BUT the manufacturer was still ishibashi.
Fuck I wish windhand would come down here. And cough need to come back cause I missed em last time.
Haven't watched that vid on extinction yet but definitely gonna suss it later.
This dead guy...I mean, I'm an atheist, but if there are any more holidays to he had for dead dudes, festivals of the moon, water or to celebrate the end of periods of fasting, whatever, bring em on, ill take em. It is the responsible thing to do in a secular society.

mate...dont be off SG so quickly...i'm sure Wood Wizard and Vidret know what they are talking about, and are talking on experience and knowledge which i may/may not have...and also, i might be in my honeymoon period with my new SG...but i couldn't be happier with the SG I got. I might also be lucky, because in the last few years i have tried a lot of Gibsons Les Pauls, and did not find anything that i would pay money for...however this SG has really changed my view of Gibsons.

slightly OT:
i asked you on some thread around here what you thought of the semaphore over the GK, but i can't remember which. maybe you missed it too

what's the verdict?
Oh yeah, I was going to write something up for you today, but I forgot. Here's my thoughts:
It's definitely an improvement over the GK3. Where the GK3 was hard and rhythmical, the Semaphore blends into your playing effortlessly. Even with high depth settings on the square waveform, the sound is still full and rich. It's got a syrupy lushness to it that I just couldn't get with the GK3. The boost function is wonderful sounding, which makes me think the dry signal, the audio path of the Semaphore, is a little more natural and amp-like. The GK3 felt more like a tool for making creative and percussive music, which is why I hope I'll never have to sell it, while the Semaphore is simply a modulation effect that adds dimension and depth to your tone.
The Shape knob is more useful than I thought it would be. All those waveforms are really useful to have as well, and the fact that you can use an expression to dial in either the depth or speed is awesome. You can't do both at the same time, but I don't know if I'd find a use for that permanently or not. The subdivisions are effective when dialling in the right speed quickly, although I wish they were on a rotary knob rather than a smooth clickless one.
Overall I'm happy. I still would like to try the Cusack, Empress and Diamond models, but that'll be for another time. So far I'm inspired to play more with this pedal, and that's what I love about tremolo.

There is nothing stopping you from looking for the right Gibson in your own time, but I wouldn't personal recommend buying one without trying first. It's just not worth the hassle, in my opinion. You might fall upon a great one, but the chances are you won't. Just keep your eyes and ears to the ground. You'll probably find the perfect one someday, just maybe not from Zzsounds.com online store.

Very true...chances are slim that you find a good one...when i bought mine i did it accepting the fact that i will get a crap one and i will send it back...i made sure the place i got it from had a no questions asked return policy (andertons) and they are close enough that if worse came to worse i would jump on a train and be at the shop within an hour.
i've also heard that some shops just get better stock from Gibson and some other shops get the crap...if its true i think i have experienced it, if not then its just a coincidence!

It's a shame you can't trust Gibson anymore. I think I'm back with Fender for the foreseeable future

Im in the same situation as you. There's no way I'm paying Australian retail prices for a guitar and they're still too expensive to buy used for that very reason. I bought both my icemen blind and that turned out great, but I know that was just luck. I do love the look and feel of sgs, I sold my super shit epi a little while back, and even it had a nice weight and feel for what it was. But that sounds like an expensive risk. I have some other, more pressing gear priorities, but I'd like a really nice guitar sometime in the nearish future.
Actually, Wood Wizard, if you catch this when you get back, my neck through has a whole bunch of paint cracking up where the neck meets the body. It did spend a long period without strings on in a case, but do I need to adjust my truss or could it just be the shitty Ibanez paint job, as I suspect it is?
Samgazdan and angry, taking all that into consideration, cheers.

Yeah I've considered going down the fender road, but they're just as expensive here. Fucking blows man.

Yeah Australia sucks on guitar prices man...i think before i move back to Australia i will have to buy so more gear, even shipping it back will be cheaper than buying it over there.
where in australia are you based Iommic? There are few good second hand guitar shops in Sydney (paramatta road in annandale).
EDIT: just saw your avatar...you in Bris-vegas...so Annandale is probably too far!
