It's a shapeoko2. It's a very versatile and expandable cnc machine. They just released the shapeoko3 and it looks awesome.

I know Ryann that's why I said something like this. I didn't say it was that exactly. there is a wide array

Back when I was at that Makerspace place (2 cities ago) we had a CNC wood router made from an old X-Y table and a Craftsman router. I'll try to dig up some blog posts & pictures of it, but I'm pretty sure the X-Y table was sold as scrap by a machining shop and they put on some stepper motors and adapted a motor controller that could talk to a PC. Programmed with the same software that's used for those desktop 3D printers. It was pretty slick.

Finally getting back to this thing. Was a bit disgusted by the initial result as it sat from the builder. Could not get it to stop buzzing, even at low volume. Today I found out why.

Image

All the elaborate bracing is now gone. fuck that shit. why did he want to reinvent the wheel?
Protip. dont put a sheet of ply next to a sheet of ply unless you are going to completely fuse them. dont skimp on glue or clamps. Voids left between the ply sheets will vibrate loudly.

so, re-do. now it will be a ported 6x12.

pretty happy with what I managed to save and how much demo I did without destroying it completely.
It was not poorly made, just poor decisions for a cab build. Now it's going to be bullet proof.

Fucking awesome I had been wondering about that bastard since you had shown pics of it and then it dropped off no more about it.

Shame the original idea didn't work out. Was something just not glued in properly? I think I can see where the problem was in the first picture. Also, was there anything behind the middle section on the vertical sides of the 18" baffle panel? Anyways, looks bitchin' as a 6x12.

Yes and yes. How can I explain what he did better..... It's odd.

So normal bracing in every other cab ever, when a builder wants to add strength to a corner, or provide an anchor spot foor an internal partition, you make a piece of wood like is pictured in the inside right corner of this cab-

and you glue or bolt it in place, sometimes both.

What this guy did was to cut out shapes in plywood and use those instead of strips of wood. He was worried about the weight of the speakers and over engineered the bracing to compensate. Totally unfounded fears, I've seen more held in place with less in 40 yo cabs. Kinda like this-

Except imagine the top pieces much bigger and covering a larger area. He glued mostly around the edges and failed to even cover all the material to be joined, when I tore it apart, a lot of the joined surface showed no sign of contact with glue. the larger voids between the ply sheets are what I believe was causing the LOUD vibration noise.

Exactly.

Got it put together in it's new configuration and gave a few test strums tonight. Sounds baller at low volume. wife is sleeping so I'll put it to the test tomorrow and take some pics if it goes well.

I dig it, going to put those metal grills over it to protect them and all?

lol ancient never watched that show, though it's annoying that he's obviously not plugged in to anything using a danelectro long horn bass for a guitar solo.

and I value life as well which is why I try to insist my impulses on others so they suffer the consequences and I get the slight satisfaction that it did take place.
