HOLY FUCK that new HCFX format sucks, what a shame. I can barely stand to look at it much less trudge through it, just a terrible layout and look plus my username/password are no longer recongnized. :(

That place is done for me thinks...

John and Trey thanks for speaking of my band in a favorable light. We're not worthy!

Also, MY GOD THIS WHITE JAZZMASTER

I never heard the song Heavy Friends until last night.

Silver Fenders are the best of the best of the best of the FUCKING BEST for fuzz playing. I would probably be fined in certain states for the way I love my Bassman. And I have used some extravagant amps at times.

Speaking of righteous amps the only reason I don't use my radical Dunwich Stonehenge is because I am a dunce who thought a NMV amp would do what I needed. I'll probably sell it soon and step up to something different (more Fendery) from Nick. I was thinking a Bassman 135 clone with a loop. And perhaps Deep and Bright on pots instead of switches so I could dial the amount.

Anyhow I feel compelled to talk about this silly amp I just got. It's called a Lab Series L4. 200 watt solid state bass amp. I used it for guitar at AW practice the other night and it was amazing. It is now the official backup amp for road duties. I don't know what else to say but I wanted to say something because I can't stop thinking about how well it stacked up. You know.

Okay I've been getting psyched to hear the new Brothers of the Sonic Cloth stuff. That's Tad's band by the way. The new stuff may be a ways off but this is pretty sweet:

Anyways, glad to be here. Thanks in advance for putting up with me.

D! Glad you made it over sir. What the latest on the Ape Blaster? It's cool that you dig the Lab Series - those were really popular with blooze and jazz guys. BB King still plays an L3 I believe. And that song is super rad.

Pretty cool. I really need to take some time and listen to YOB stuff. Anybody know what sort of rig he uses? Dem toanz are so big and heavy and articulate that I gotta know.

Derelict78 wrote:So what got you guys into Doom/stoner/downtempo music?
I cant think of anything specifically I have just always dug on doomy music. Pink Floyd was my first love mainly Animals and Meddle. I always liked Black Sabbath and then I heard Type-O-Negative. I dont really think of the as a Doom band Per se but they are pretty fucking Doomy. Ministry Filth Pig is one of my all time favorite Records and its a little doomy but again not a strictly doom band. About 4 years ago I tried out for a band that only lasted about 2 months but in that time I was introduced to Sleep, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, and reintroduced to Pentagram. From there ILF did the rest and now im hooked.

When I first moved to college I got into a local band called ASG - liked that they were 'heavy' but didn't know what stoner rock was. Years later I came across Mastodon and punched them into Pandora and that's how I found out about The Sword and Baroness and a lot of this gloriously heavy music I didn't know about. About the same time I was getting into guitar pedals and gear and shit and started lurking/joining forums where I would find even more recommendations.

That's a difficult question to answer, Mike is as much of a gear head as all of us and has used a different setup pretty much every album and tour. He used to use Electric Amps but more recently has switched over to Marshall Super Lead clones and Emperor cabs. As far as pedal's he used a Ross distortion and Compressor for a long time, but has also been spotted using a Suhr Riot and a few other different dirt boxes and I believe a Whirlwind compressor, he's also had a DOD delay on his board for ever and I'm not sure if he upgraded this or not. As far as guitars he used LP's for years but has been religiously playing his Monson custom since he got it.

cool interview.

So he uses a compressor? even with an LP? I always assume compressor are for strats and tele's...not full sounding LP's. Not that i've ever tried one, but figured that a compressor on an LP or Humbuckers in general would make the sound too muddy

Monson's aren't for everyone, I dislike 90% of the designs but Mikes is one of the few I like. I always wanted one of the V-Kill 2's in 27" scale or a similar spec ravenous with symmetrical wings.

Sam - yup he's said that its his lil tone secret.

AxAxSxS wrote:Also, I'm not gonna quote it, but AngryGoldfish's rant/speech was spot on. I may have to quote that elsewhere. Believe me guys this kind of music is in no danger of going "mainstream" Out of the countless musicians I've dealt with from cl over the last year, a grand total of ONE was on the same page as me musically. Typical comments- "That sounds really good. Why do you play it so slow?" "that sounds really good, do you like Tool?" That sounds really good, you should get some newer amps" "whats a Red Fang?"

I sent a link to this place to D, dunno if he read it or not. Who else are we missing? I know there's a few

I've always preferred slower music, even before I knew what Doom was. I've always preferred dark, depressing, ominous stuff, even if it's on an acoustic guitar.

i think nowadays he is using a pigtronix compressor. Also possibly some BAT pedals. Not sure.
