Despite reading that more than once on the Guitar FX Layouts site, it never sunk in for some reason - I don't think I should be claiming to be someone I'm not, so I'll amend the pedal

Hey I don't mind, I just wanted you to know haha. I rarely put the name on the ones I build.

I spent a little time playing with transistors in the Pixel last night, the original layout suggested 2N3904s and I had two groups, one with an hFe of around 280 (quite good) and the other of around 210 (fairly similar).

I tried some very low hFe which didn't work at all, and settled for now on some BC108s (hFe 428) which are a bit more spitty and characterful. I might go higher at some point just to see what happens, but I'm generally happy as it is.

Hummingbird and Noise Swash next, once the pots arrive.

Just finished up a Gemini IV clone. Made some transistors changes. A BC108B replacing the 2N5088 pre-germanium side, and a PN2222 instead of a 2N2222A on the silicon side. I found that the circuit is pretty forgiving where leakage is concerned for the NPN germanium transistor. The one I have in there now registered about 400uA leakage on the Peak 55, but there's no hiss, and voltages biased up extremely close to the original. All in all, this one has a lot more teeth than the Gemini III.

Probably because I'm going to have to pull the plug on building for a while to finish my reno. Gotta keep the missus happy. Anyway, this is making my ears happy. Clone of the Life pedal. Loudest pedal I've ever played through. I mean LOUD, really fucking LOUD. More like...



Germs are matched Russian D9V's (0.344v), and the sillycons are 1S1588's, along with a 2 x 5 diffuse red LED. Opamp is an LM108H can, along with a happy face for added mojo. This thing is a tube buster.

Ah crap, I bought an unopened original in BST here and it's pretty damn awesome but think I'll need to buy this board as the idea of trying out some different clipping options and using a metal can LM308 sounds super enticing.

Not a dramatic change, but if I refinish all my self-built pedals to match (or use the latest image as a base to work from) then I might have something quickly identifiable as mine (still no plans to sell anything, this is all for my own amusement).

Finished my latest, a copy of most of the EQD Hummingbird (no exp. pedal out for one thing).

I tried out the idea above and think I like it enough that I will probably do the others eventually.

So I built a second, smaller Madbean Rump Roast in a 125B, this one lightly modded via breadboarding and added an extra row to [lvlark's layout] for that large orange cap. Q2 is here a J113 (Q1 still J201, both Siliconix), 150k resistors were upped to 330k, gain 1 r up to 91k, output r down to 97k. Also some small cap value changes, bottom right down to 8.2nf, 1nf to 2.2nf, 680pf to 1nf, for those interested. Oh and a 33k or above is the only thing that makes white LEDs bearable to look at.

I just played it by ear as usual but sounds like the bright/high gain mode is more saturated/compressed, and the cut at minimum doesn't get as thin. I plan to record a side by side comparison but overall they're very similar, I mean it's a solid Madbean design at its core, and based on the Dr. Z Carmen Ghia preamp section. Of course I've never tried one of those, but for me this cops a wide range of very present, tube-like boost/overdrive, with an unusual tone control. Goes from thin and jangly to beefy with an interesting high cut/mid scoop happening in the last quarter of the rotation. I tried to widen or move this sweet spot further towards the middle but failed, still that zone does cool tone-shaping things with like fuzzes flyin' thru. I think I'm good with two of these, but definitely a great circuit.

The paintjob is white on white basecoat with black splatter, then a thin rectangle of white again, fluorescent pink and blue enamel letters, pink jellybean, some blue wash, some coats of gloss clearcoat.

Here's a Peach Fuzz I made for a friend, who provided the artwork.

And my 2nd Laika (Sputnik II).
I got 2 PCBs at the time because I was somehow sure that I'd fuck up my first attempt - that didn't happen though, so I've built this second one that also works just fine.

Cool builds fuzzonaut! Haven't tried any of them but might build some day.

Here's my second Ghost Lunar Incantation clone. Same as the first in that there are no mods but the vero was initially meant for another fuzz (FY-2 in this case) and then I changed my mind. So the circuit layout is a little different and it's in a smaller enclosure. Also it has an ST BC108 as Q1 and a CDIL as Q2, whereas the first had two CDILs. Haven't compared them directly yet but probably not wildly different. One of them might replace the fuzz face currently first in my chain.

Paint is Citadel Orc Flesh and Armour wash, knobs are Daka-ware.

I meant the name of the finish
"Citadel Orc Flesh and Armour wash" ... unless those are the names of the paints or something. Regardless... cool stuff !
