My school bought a Fender MIM Jazz Bass for Jazz band. I was the first one to play it straight out teh box, honestly I thought it would rule to play a never before played instrument, it actually sucked. The frets were sharp, the strings were wicked out of tune and dirty too. But the neck played nicely (on the back) the fretboard is okay. The action was kinda high too, even though I like high action you would think that the company would send their instruments out with a more even set up.
I told the band director all of this and then asked for an allen key to correct the action and the intonation to which he says "I want to let the bass get used to the room." Although that isn't a bad response that isn't going to solve the problems the bass has, dumb band teacher.
