Sous, is that the 3rd new amp lately?!

Ha. I thought it was an attack on his skillz.

.....and yes...... :erm:

Grrface wrote:Sigh. Just left practice with the band who just two weeks ago had assured me that I was now their bassist. Tonight, I was told that I "did well tonight, and why don't you be here again next week to practice, but after that, take a few weeks off, we're gonna audition another bassist." W.T.F. The drummer, who is a friend of mine, called me on my way home and apologized, apparently it caught even him off guard, it was really the 2/3 guitarists' idea to audition the other guy, so I don't fault him for that, but it still pisses me off.

I've decided that I'll bust my butt and learn their last 3 songs that I don't know before next week, just to give them no wiggle room, but honestly, I can't really decide if I actually want to play with those dudes. I mean, that's slimy as shit.

I like that you are committed to learning those last 3 songs. You never know,...other dude could suck and you can show that you don't by learning those other tunes and being prepared and professional if you do get the call.

On the flip side; if you are an established band,...why not try out more than one guy for the job. I think it would have been less slimy if they had been open and honest and said that there were other dudes they were considering or auditioning. Not everyone carries the same train of thought though and it would be presumptuous to believe that others know how to be courteous and professional. It definitely sucks that that is the case,...but you have to deal or never get a gig/give a person a chance to redeem themselves.

i agree with you about trying out multiple people. only thing that pushes them into being suck-asses is they told him he had the gig. that would irk me a bunch.

Heh, yeah. I'm gonna talk with the drummer about it this weekend. Basically, it's up to me at this point if I want to give them a shot, versus the other way around. I could give two craps whether they want me or not at this point. The communication issues and the general lack of cohesion (there are basically two groups in the band. 2 guitarists, then guitarist and drummer) makes me wary of the whole thing.

I think I'm gonna learn the last three songs, because as long as I take the time to sit down and chart them, it'll only take me a day or two at the most, and it would be incredibly satisfying to be able to walk in and say "yeah, I know all your songs, but honestly, I feel like you guys aren't a good fit for me, thanks". Plus, the drummer gave me the heads up that he probably would only be with the band for a few more months anyway, with the way that work is looking, and since he was the only reason I was in the band in the first place, I feel like any respect I might have earned wouldn't count for much when they'd be able to throw their weight around once he's gone.

To be honest, Grr.....I haven't heard you say too many positive things about this band. Don't stay just for the sake of staying.

Grrface wrote:I'd say you need help, but I'm more jealous than anything :P

That's kinda the cool thing.....I haven't spent a dime....yet. I keep getting such great deals on shit that I've been turning around a making a profit on them when I see something better. That's the way I've done pedals, too. But so far with this rig, I had my Eden setup worth $1300 used. I landed those two amps for cheap (one I'm keeping, the other I sold for $200 profit) so I was still left with $800...bought a 6 space rack, Ashly Preamp, and Furman conditioner for $300 leaving me with $500 to get new cabs.

Here's where I'm not sure what my next plan is....I could get two GK cabs and break even on this whole upgrade....or go with some Hartke Hyline's and end up only paying about $500 for the entire upgrade.....or another brand of cabs. Not sure where I'm going on these.

But if you stick to the principles of: 1) Only buy what other people are willing to buy from you, and 2) Only buy it when you see it below average price, it's fairly easy to keep trying out gear and not lose money.
