This guy annoys the fuck out of me for how often his expert information is dead wrong. In this one it’s the “Mutable Clouds in a pedal for the FIRST TIME EVER!!!” cluelessness. For his SY-1000 review, it was his talking about “MIDI guitar” and its history back to the GR-300 and his own history of using “MIDI guitar” for 20 years. Just no.

I saw that guy last night for the first time and I didn't know if he knew too much or he just lied too much.

I lost it when he said he was working in a reverb that was not possible to finish because he needed a GPU that only runs on Linux :poke:
Then I saw the SY1000 and yeah, lots of bs info.

I mean, in a lot of ways he’s no worse than other gear youtubers? He has a criminal amount of self confidence and lots of money to spend on gear.

With a pedal like the Digit/Beebo, you'd think they would have their own comprehensive tutorial/demo videos out in advance instead of leaving it to youtubers to do a questionable job of explaining it/using it for sounds you could get out of a hundred other pedals.

I was really interested because it looked kinda like a H9 with less microtransactions and more NODES, but I'm having a hard time deciding based on the demos out there..

I have more respect for lots of other youtubers that take the time to learn why whatever gear they're demoing actually does what it does (like a good salesperson, I suppose), even if the better videos are like 30 minutes long, or if they post a second follow-up video with a deeper dive/understanding.

I would also argue that some channels just have more viewership/saturation and that's why they get sent all the new gear, even if their lack of knowledge is apparent (this guy!), but are charismatic enuff to keep ppl clickin'

That's The Flashbulb if you're into IDM-y stuff.

I released this little guy a couple weeks ago but forgot to post about it. High headroom distortion box for bass, guitars, synths, and anything else you want to distort. This is a bass demo. I'll have a Moog Taurus demo up soon I think.

Wow that sounds absolutely sick! I should get one of your devices one day, I really like them, both sonically and visually.

If I could offer one barely relevant critique of the video it would be to make the text hang around for a second or two longer. Maybe I'm just a slow reader but I had to skip back a couple times to catch all the info. Then again it's all there on the face(plate) of the pedal.

Thanks - I had a lot to jam into this video so the titles are a little short. Ill make them longer in future demos!

Yeah, that's quite vexing. I just FF through talking, so I rarely reach the depths of gear celebs' nescience. Judging by the banal ways in which people use their pedals, my expectations are fairly low.

Not to be all Cap'n Save a Youtuber but he's been a working musician for 20 years, dude's not bobeats. He's really only been doing regular (as in weekly) Youtube videos since lockdown, for obvious reasons.

Like he didn't make a big deal about the Bebo having Clouds, he just says "people have been asking for Clouds in a pedal and this has it" and that you could have been running a guitar into a Clouds module all along if you wanted. AFAIK, there is only one Clouds pedal and I don't know if it's made anymore. (Also I don't know why anyone would want one, it always sounded pretty shit to me.)

Its keeping me busy! Glad to be building things likely to get used by real players nowadays. Got pretty burned out building Tone Benders for picky TGPers back in 2010 :whateva:

Poly/Beebo: I'm looking forward to trying the new firmware as Loki is always working on it and making improvements and I have not updated mine for a couple months.

As kind of constructive criticism: The workflow in it is a bit cumbersome. To introduce, connect and modify modules all takes a little bit more movement and time for people used to moving effects around in a DAW. It's not a "real time" fun box, but one for deliberation. And sometimes it can be a little bit buggy.

Having said that, from reading the firmware change list, it looks like he's made significant workflow improvements since the last time I updated and Loki is super-awesome: He will go to whatever extreme that is required to solve problems. I am really thankful to him actually because I have a pair of early units and there was something wrong with them and he repaired them in short order. Round trip from US to Australia was like three weeks.

Also, some really great sounding effects, 4 ins/4 outs that can be configured in any way imaginable and the ability to use IRs.

And yes, once you buy one, you can change to the other very easily, at the press of a button on the setting page. But not both at the same time though there is some overlap between the two.

And he is always working on the firmware, introducing new modules, workflow improvements etc.

I thought there were a couple of people doing this already. Cloudy, Blue Lantern (not exactly a pedal, but you can run it in a tb loop), some others? :idk:

And it's easy to turn clouds into a samey sounding uninteresting mess, but there are some fun textures in there
