...isn't the other way around? That's MY manifest at least.

All the metal guitarists try to tune their geets lower and lower and lower, when MY four string 34" scale guitar is a WHOLE OCTAVE lower to strat wtih! And the Bss Vi style Gretsch is in the 5-string bass register reaching the metal guitarists register.

AND the more You've got strings the less problems You'll have onstage when Your windmills brake them. You can get away with one broken string through the song and THEN change the instrument. Not that You couldn't simply adjust to playing with one string less, but, You know, just saying...

Ugh, I was just bitching about that in another thread the other day. I'm so sick of every guitarist tuning all the way down to like A or even lower, and EQ'ing their guitars bassy as fuck. And then you wonder why you can't hear the bass in most metal. Maybe because the guitars all tuned down to the bass frequencies and blast their fucking bassist out of the room. It's because they EQ their amps when playing by themselves at home, and they don't realize that what sounds best by yourself is not what sounds best in a band.

I know, I know. And if not the band, then the sound guys who knows how to do the genre sounds the best start bitching when You dial in treble and sub octave. Or stray from the rhythm guitarists riff. And not saying a mild overdrive on bass can't sound good when used sparingIy, as an effect - oh really? FUCK YOU ALL! :flame:

If You don't want a bass player to be heard, as a distinct instrument, don't call and offer me the gig.

I've always been a big proponent of having more mids than the guitar player(s).

Yep. The uglier your sound the better you'll cut through. A muff may sound badass in your bedroom ,but in a band, on bass you're ghost.
