My friend that used to come over and cuddle with me has a boyfriend now.
Fucking selfish bitch. Doing shit to make herself happy without any consideration of how I might need cuddles.
I AM A ROBOT THAT RUNS ON CUDDLES

To my mind he's doing nothing less that suggesting that he's taken more initiative than all the people who are footing the bill for his "steady job with regular paychecks and great benefits," and that he's gotten it all through hard work when the military is so desperate for bodies that if you're healthy-ish, they'll take you.
The military is, in some respects, the easy way out of career decisions and choices, and his whole stance just reeks of idiocy. And in a very real way, I'm footing the bill for that.
Hence its inclusion in the spite, hate, rage, irritation thread.
of course, I opened that picture right after I opened the mailbox and saw the bills inside. Bills I'm going to be perilously late on because I wasn't a fucking twerp who wanted to help other people bomb the ever loving shit out of people who don't agree with us and couch it all in bullshit fucking fascist nationalism.

Well, if it's the easy way out, and you'd get everything you need, and the requirements are so low, then you're welcome too it aren't you? And so is everyone else.

Could? Yes. Would? No.
Ethically speaking, I'd rather have my electricity shut off.

Then that is your choice. I don't see how you having a different belief than that guy automatically makes him not only wrong but also an asshole.

Because I'm paying his bills.
Soldiers should be emotionally indebted to/thankful for civilians, not the other way around.

Well, you're welcome to stop paying his bills. You may not like the consequences of that choice, but it is still your choice.
You claim to believe in something, but you are unwilling to do anything in support of that belief.
I wouldn't want to trade places with you, because I would have to do what you won't.

I'm not sure I've ever met anyone who had a positive experience with tax evasion that wasn't involved in offshore accounts.
It's just an unfortunate byproduct of the way our society is structured. And I'm mildly irritated by it (and specifically the grab at the moral high ground in that picture).

In my experience, that is not necessarily true. I went through processing, MEPS, ASVAB, and all that. When I was doing the physical part, they noticed my scar on my chest. It was from a looooooong time ago when I had a friend brand a silhouette of a tree on me. Dumb idea but, hey, that's what being a bored kid is all about. Of course, I told them some other story that would make me seem less crazy.
So, they made me take a psych evaluation. I went and talked to a psychiatrist, and she asked me a shit ton of questions. I am incredibly anti-war/violence (yeah, I'm a damn hypocrite and no better than some raging dick capitalist/corporate choad), so when the lady asked me questions about warfare and whatnot, I said don't expect me to pull the trigger, push a button, or anything like that. I'll handle a soldier missile, but
I will not fire it. So that experience, and the 400+ question survey I had to fill out probably disqualified me. Perhaps for the best.
Also those recruitment centers (at least the Navy), are only allowed to take two kids to MEPS a month because so many people are trying to join. Le poopy economy is making the armed forces very attractive to a lot of people.
And sorry if it sounds like I am arguing. I just thought I would share my experience, because I found it interesting.
<3 fuzz.

what you're not getting is that the guy in that picture had to go through a training regimen way more demanding than anything any of the OWSies will ever see followed by grueling service doing shit none of the OWSies would ever deign to do for shitty pay in crap conditions with no gourmet chefs cranking food out for them, and that he'll pull that degree while on active duty and will STILL be in the service making a slightly less shitty salary as a result. he's not going to get the degree, get out, and go straight to a job with Boeing or the USPS. and if they have a call-up, they can yank him right out of class. he HAS the moral high ground. he's worked for what he's getting. the OWSies haven't done anything worthwhile but are demanding shit anyway.
