Gamergate just makes me sad to be a gamer, a male, and a human

I just can't believe people are still talking about it. I quit reddit a month or so ago because awful things like that were so hard to avoid. Then today something about it pops up on another site, and seriously, it's not dead? I'd rather just not hear about it again.

I really thought it would have died down a lot quicker than this
It just doesn't go away

Oh god I know. I always see people post about oh Sarkeesian got some facts wrong, like it justifies people threatening to kill her and people that agree with her over games. GamerGate, is just a childish tantrum for life-long, shit gurgling virgins. Hopefully they all meet up and rally somewhere and collectively contract Ebola.

I generally hate the gaming culture, like a lot.

Everyone is too stubborn and arrogant to actually get any resolution and being total regular jerkoffs on the internet doesn't make you an expert on ethics, industry or any other moral issue. I seriously don't understand why Videogames has this unnecessary elevated state of worth. It has so much money and resources injected into it, and everything has to be represented in such a certain way - then people will abuse anyone that didn't make the way they wanted.

I feel like we've such a long way from how we used to be, I didn't have much money growing up and even less went to videogames. I actually started gaming on PC just because I could download those kind of games easily. They were fun, playing Deus Ex and Ultima was utterly amazing. I don't see how everything needed to become so Toxic when everyone can easily enjoy what they like.

Music nerds are the nerdiest of all nerds.

EDIT:
Also, people really need to stop with the PCMASTERRACE bullshit, it is so obnoxious.

Regarding GamersGate, the situation with Quinn is of course horrible and emphasizes the worst side of some how people use the internet to facilitate truly reprehensible behavior. It sucks that some of us might be included with those people if we identify as gamers. The media might do this, but just because the media incorrectly paints you as a misogynist doesn't make you a misogynist, or at least not just because you're a gamer. We all know that the idiots in the gaming community are the ones who make the most noise, and unfortunately they recieve the most attention from outside perspectives. However I don't personally believe that most gamers are trogs or are bad people, it's just those people get the most attention.

But I think outside of that it brings attention to some interesting questions about the effects of gaming culture becoming more widespread in society. Which I think is important to have meaningful discussion about, and I hope that the Quinn incident and neck beard internet attacks don't draw away too much from the issues surrounding the incident. Gaming culture has the potential to be very penetrating in our society, and it would be wise to make it so that it will benefit society instead of tarnish it.

I'd say the kinds of guys that think that way all just need to get laid, but they are all so fundamentally loathsome I know it is basically a physical impossibility.
Before you even get into the realm of hypothetical situations under which they may have consensual physical, sexual contact with a partner, what kind of person that partner is and whether or not money exchanged hands, there aren't a lot circumstances where they can walk away with a positive view of women (or possibly anyone prepared to fuck them).

I'm extrapolating now and have probably painted a target on myself but, whatever. Misogynist virgins come at me. Send me a death threat for actually respecting women, not just treating them like some hybrid mum/slave/orifice to be penetrated (weakly, for about two strokes before offloading your awful lamo seed into them).

I'm gonna facepalm myself, because you're right.
I had forgotten that there is an exception to every rule.
In particular, I had forgotten about THAT exception.

Fuck the world, seriously. There is NO hope for humanity.

Time to push the button and hand it over to the cockroaches, people. Let's go.

I think it's the other way around, actually -- I think that the most socially maladjusted people who have 'clasically' played video games are having a hard time coping with the fact that it's not just 'their people' who play the games/indulge in the culture anymore. And so what we're seeing, as other people have pointed out, is the lashing out/tantrum of, essentially, a child that's has to share their special toy with the other kids in kindergarten, emotionally speaking.

GamerGate is full of keyboard warriors. I want to be more derogatory toward them but they're undeserving.
