Man that Tom dude is cool and makes me like this place even more. Tomorrow I am going to make posts outside of the DR!

I can't believe some guys penchant for needless wasteful arguing. Nick is cool, site owner is cool, established locs are cool and the only dude (that isn't OBVIOUSLY just a corny troll) who had actual negative comments was long gone like ten or twelve pages ago.

Okay, if you buy that Yammy SG don't change out the pickups unless you're putting Yamaha ones back in it. See how the top side of the pickups has two screws instead of one like 99.9% of all the humbucker equipped guitars ever made? You can dial them differently to set different angles for the pickup to rest at. So if you like it to be flat it will never do that ghettoass thing you'll see on some Gibsons where one side is all dipped in like it's some misshapen fucked up toy. Unless you want that. And some of the sounds you can get from strange angling are pretty nifty so maybe you would. Thing is you can dial it how you want it instead of putting up with or spending a bunch of time fighting how it ends up due to the less than brilliant mounting design you see on most of the rest of the humbucker'd guitars in the world.

Filthy sound of the day: World's shittiest 'strat' > Iron Pig > Catalinbread Echorec > Carbon Copy > Astroverb 16. Psychotropic!

My mum says I'm cool...

Yeah, I should explore the site more as well, but I'm relatively time poor and doubt my abilities to maintain more than one train of thought in differing threads.

I agree with your Yamaha advice completely, when I mentioned previously to change the pups, I clearly wasn't thinking, those old ones should still sound great, I completely misplaced where those guitars came temporally. I think it was that model that Santana used to play (?) and that Pike based his First Act 9 string on. Its a pity about the colour scheme on the pups though, black would look much cooler with the surf blue...I dunno I dig that colour. Its like those old hot rod/muscle car colours...plus y'know, we all go gaga for orange and green amps and cabs, what's a blue guitar in there?

We need to get the Drummer situation nailed down and then we're ready to gig. Am I a bad person for hoping the guy that's leaving gets divorced and moves back? Dude was dedicated and very into it. Drama free.
I think that makes me a bad person. I wish him the best.

 for ILF

I have some old band mates that ask me this regularly.

Not a bad thing.

I was surprised at how much I liked the first couple of songs. It's kinda... fun.

Dude, I'm about to go to bed, but I just checked out Totimoshi quickly, that was really cool.
On the subject of crazy Japanese bands, do you like Electric Eel Shock or Eternal Elysium?

Also, you'd probably dig an Australian band from way back called Ricaine.

And yes, the new one (Kvelertak) is really fun. Uplifting even...

They're not Japanese! They're from California if I remember rightly.

I'll check out those other bands dude

Yeah, it's got a surprising amount of "old-skool rock & roll pump-yer-fist and shout along in the chorus" overtones.

I don't consider Nick to be a builder on the level like EQD, Dr Scientist, Black Arts, ect. (he could be though). I see him as someone who people hit up to build an amp to their exact specifications either through PMs or email outside of the forum. I don't see where his posting pics throughout the build would be considered spam.

TL;DR

Listen to Neurosis and have a good night err'body. I'm going to show my son the awesomeness of that which goes by the name of "The Goonies".
:hello:

Fair enough. I think you'd be surprised how small of an operation most of the ILF builders are. They're all either 1 or 2 man(or woman) operations, operating on profit margins that are low enough that it would shock most people, and it shows that they all do this shit mostly because they love it, and I'm sure Nick is the same way. All I meant was that I know that it sounds like the ILF elders are coming in here and shitting on you guys and attacking you, but that's not it at all. I've been here a long fucking time and I love it when new people come around. I just want more of you guys to come out and check out the rest of the forum, especially the gear section, because this forum is full of really cool and unbelievably nice people (especially compared to other gear forums on the net).

I tried following this thread when it first started, but it just moves way way way too fucking fast. I'll go to a meeting at work and come back to 5 pages having passed, and I just say fuck it and forget about it. As wfs said, I'd actually be really into Nick's stuff, but this thread is just such a blur that it's basically impossible to track for info on his products.

And fuck yeah on Neurosis. And Isis. Although I've been listening to Pelican all fucking day today.

I'm aware that most of the companies on here are one or two man operations. What I meant about him not being on that level is that he isn't an established company with having a product line out. All of the amps I see him build are one off customs. As far as the rest of the site goes... I check the BST thread and every once in a while I check a few others but honestly I don't love fuzz (there are a few exceptions) and I'm pretty much set with my rig so I really don't have an interest in what else is on this site. Not to say that it sucks, because it doesn't. I think it is great, I'm just saying that I mainly come here to talk to my friends in the Doom Room. Same way I felt about HCFX before it went down the crapper. 95% of my posts on there were in the Doom Room.

Anyway, those were my .03.

Tom Dalton wrote:Haha, I retracted most of that, cause I just. want. everyone to move on, and I don't like playing the moderator role. But awh, I still stand by it.

And yes, ILF is about LOVE and being cool to each other. I want it to be possible for a forum to be barely moderated, but also not full of people being dicks to each other. Hope everyone's down with that plan.
:ilw:

I haven't noticed anyone being dicks aside from the obvious trolls that pop in occasionally and they are usually quickly overlooked and ignored. I'm down for everyone getting along.

Played a show with them about 10 years ago. Before the show they protested outside of the KFC down the street. I stood out there with them and while they were telling everyone that came in to get something to eat how meat is murder and all that shit I munched on a chicken breast. I remember their set ruled and I bought a cd from them but the rest of their recorded output left me unimpressed. Haven't listened to them in a while though.

SHIT! I forgot that rule (BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T THINK IT'D BE NECESSARY) and the horrible day that spawned it.

So yes, since we're talking rules, the first two rules of ILF are:
1) Don't be an asshole.
2) No mutilated penis pics.

Thank you Tom for being cool about everything. I'm the one who brought this thread here from HCFX, so I feel atleast some what responsible for any general misgivings this thread creates, and I apologize, and as one of, if not the, main poster in this thread I feel obligated to comment. To be honest you wanting Nick to have a shark tank is a completely valid request, its common knowledge that Nick and I are the regulars (or main posters) in this thread, and to have an independent thread with a main poster who is also a builder within a forum that is designed around small time builders and giving them a place to discuss / distribute their wares, it can be perceived as someone trying to bend the rules. But in all fairness as I pointed out before there are, and have been other builders that have done or do this as well, Dan W's etching thread is no different other then it comes out and says it in the title that its for his stuff. Even though that thread no longer has the post traffic this one has its still in a similar vein of spam as what is being perceived here and last time I had checked had not been locked and did not end with a shark tank suggestion.

I love this community, its the only gear forum I frequent anymore due to the overwhelming unbiased support of the members here, and all of the top notch builders who build and help out around here. But respect is a two way street, anybody in here should not be only posting in this thread, there's a vast fountain of knowledge here and many times there's posts that are relevant to "doom gear" that aren't in here. The Gear Forum is amazing, as is the Guitar Forum. And its not that the members of ILF are saying you can't just hang out in one corner of the bar, its them saying "guys your gear is awesome but I can't follow 1 extrmeley ADHD thread that posts 5 to 10 pages a day please put it up where every one can see and admire it, in threads that don't move so fast". Take it as a compliment guys, the rest of the forum WANTS to see our gear, its selfish of us to keep it just in this thread. In retrospect about the 2 way street of respect, its completely unfair for random ILF members to show up here and post mutilated penis pics or extremely diseased vagina pics without NSFW tags, especially when they've been politely asked to put them within tags. We don't care about the pics or the person posting them, but not putting them in NSFW tags could get someone on a work computer in serious trouble for no reason other then your being bored and wanting to antagonize a random internet stranger. Also this does not encourage the low post count members who mainly post in this thread to go out and see what else is on this site. If most of the outsiders (who happen to be forum regulars) come in and post graphic pics or throw random insults at random people in all caps I wouldn't want to venture deeper into that forum, it would actually encourage me to leave and never come back or stick to the one thread with like minded people. If your going to address a problem make sure the solution doesn't also perpetuate the problem, find a cure not a treatment.

Gah this post was way to long... :picard:

tl;dr:

Don't be an Asshole, and don't encourage others to be.

i like the comfort of not having to search any other forum except for this thread, everything used to be here minus the shitty drama. and i hope it continues to be. i come here for the Doom Room because the Doom Room is a complete forum within itself, period. there's all kinds of shit going on in whatever Doom Room thread we're talking about, there's community, and it is great. what pisses me off is that a couple of people who i've NEVER or seldom seen post in any DR thread suddenly are so butthurt about the way we do shit, but that is the way we always did shit.

i won't discuss this any further, really. i'll return whenever anything relevant to awesomeness is going on.

1) Practice
2) Make sure you're doing it right. It's hard for me to articulate, but there's a way to scream and your voice is fine afterwards. It took me a while to hit that point.
3) Honey and room temp water.

pelliott wrote:In addition to proper warming up and practice, find your range and I wouldn't recommend trying to emulate any vocalist in particular. It's really easy to shred your vocal cords in a few minutes just by trying to go outside of your natural range. With practice you might increase that range but it's going to be limited, especially at first.

Also, this. I hurt my voice pretty badly trying to do low vocals a couple of years ago. Turns out I have a high scream and that's it.
