wow, that was immensely wonderful. it's really hard for me to pick which clip i like better...Jo Jones is so delightful in the first one, but the combination of the young, unpretentious Benson and the drums/tap fours-trading near the end put the second clip over the top.

Yeah, that was before Benson got famous and I still liked his playing at that point. Glad you liked it, dubkitty.
dubkitty, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Iceberg Slim record Reflections, but the guitar playing on it is nothing less than killer. Music by the Red Holloway Quartet, which I think Benson was a member of at the time. I have never been able to find out exactly who, other than Red Holloway, plays on it. Holloway lays back for most of the record and whoever the guitarist is just burns throughout.

I've always hated my Jag's neck pup. I heightened it a little bit and now I love it

I feel like I'm finally getting a hang of this whole, "lyric writing," thing.

Go listen to some newerish Of Montreal (specifically Skeletal Lamping). It will completely change what you think writing a song is.

i love this feeling. i'm starting to get a handle on writing vocal melodies/lyrics too. absentmindedly humming while playing is actually working. words fall into place from there quite simply, although having them make sense is not as easy.

Yay! I always think I'm getting there, and then I don't write anything for three months.

I put a humbucker in the neck of my Jag and it's fucking rad, you do need hot pickups/pickups close to the strings in jags I think.
Got my uni results, I need to get 53% next year to get a 2:1, and about 80% to get a 1st. 80% is just not happening, so I don't need to break my back trying to get a 1st, and I can put in a reasonable amount of effort and get a good degree without stressing myself out like crazy.
