Cross post from a MW thread about drone techniques.
I worked out a drone patch today I was pretty happy with so I'll break it down.
The basis of the patch was a Cursus Iteritas running into the center channel of a self oscillating Three Sisters in crossover mode. The three filter peaks were oscillating at some harmonious chord, and the Cursus was running through an Optomix with a slow Maths cycle opening the gate into the filter. This was nice because the high and low filter peaks stayed at a constant pitch, while the pitch of the center peak and the pitch of Cursus slowly faded back and forth.
I also had a slightly faster Maths cycle modulating the "structure" parameter on the Cursus, which changed the relationship of even and odd harmonics of the output. I liked this because it added a light pulsing rhythm that faded in and out with the volume of the Cursus. I also used all of Maths mixer outputs to lightly modulate the level of other timbre parameters and the volume of the high filter peak oscillation.
I like using the Maths mixer outputs for modulation because these modulation sources are all related and connected, but not necessarily"in sync" rhythmically. Sometime I find strict rhythmic synchronization takes me out of the drone headspace, but having interconnected modulation can add to the cohesiveness of a patch (I really want to add Just Friends to my rack for this purpose). I also like to leave some elements unmodulated so that I can tweak them by hand. In this patch it was the Fold parameter on Cursus and the level of the low filter peak oscillation. I like adding a slight performative aspect without giving myself too much to distract me from the drone headspace.
I'm getting back into modular after about a two month hiatus. I sold my DPO, and got a Drumbrute (thx Nov). Ive simplified my set up a bunch since this fall and Im reconfiguring my concept of what my rack will be. Will post more when I make the plunge into some stuff.
EDIT: for shits and giggles, a rough sketch. Much less emphasis on rhythm and percussion than my past conceptions.

playing around with the MiniMod into LxD. loooooove me some LPG's. the CV in is nifty on the LxD.

also, switched up the knobs on my Chronoblob. NEAT.
....... right before i'm about to swap a DLD in there and put it in my second case. but. she'll look PRETTY there. so. YEAH.

Does anyone here own a Xaoc Tallinn ?
If so, any impressions ?
My initial plan was to get an Intellijel Quad VCA but I might not need that many additional VCAs and the Tallinn should be better for overdriving things (which I never get tired of). It lacks bias though but having lin and exp control might mitigate that a bit...
And for those of you with Quad VCAs, how's the overdrive (when in exp mode and with boost) ?

at a local thing where they do a once a month Electronic Music Open Mic thing. first guy was awesome because he went from nothing patched and built impressive ass multiple soundscapes as he went. some times he went a bit messy, but it was mostly just fun to listen to and when it got a bit skewed he brought it back.
second guy was doing all pre-prepared bits, looked like mostly through a DT. a little boring 'cause it was straight normal hard electro. not my thing.
3rd doodo is setting up now.
..... i mostly wanted to come to see how folks use modular live, see how they do their sets, what kind of musics people do, how the changeovers and all is. want to try next month i think?

niiiiiice. DetMod Dan saif that they should be getting theirs in Thursday, out soon as possible. i'm hoping to have my pair by early/mid-next week.
got the monies in PayPal, waiting on QuBit to be ready to take orders. after the Nebs hits i think this case is solid.
...... still curious about Other New Mutables that Olivier will be dropping over the coming weeks.

Wowza, I ordered from DetMod too, I had no clue it'd be shipping so soon! Switched On in Austin says their estimated ship date is 3/19. Heck to the yeahs!!!

Instead of, "Look at this idea we have. Maybe next year or something."
You gotta get people on that hype train. I mean look at this thread.
I had a horrible patch session this weekend. hahaha. Just like KBit, I hadn't patched in a while. Getting to used to using sequencer boxes.

An embarrassment of riches: I have a FLXS1, an Eloquencer and a NerdSeq. With only room for 2 of the 3 in my cases. I thought I would sell one by now but I still can’t make up my mind...

but. i don't know about going improv. going to work on two things to go from one to the other that i can do 5 or 10 minutes of each. sort of write a full basic song structure to play through?

I have a Tallin and Intellijel's Quad VCA.
If you want OD to provide grit/distortion, Tallin is your best bet. Quad VCA is an excellent module, too, but the "Boost" mostly serves as a signal boost that almost acts as a clean boost (at least with the signals that I feed it). It's a great VCA, can get super loud, and is also functional as a mixer.

Muse FTW : Thanks for the info. How do you like the Tallin's overdrive ? Compared to other modules for example ?
This module is the same price as the Quad VCA (at least locally), so the appeal is mostly the sound character (otherwise I can get dual VCAs for cheaper)...
