Jenny Hval was fun last night. Weirdly short set which was a shame but it was good. The stage show involved someone who didn't play any music doing a series of odd things, I liked it. At first I was worried it might get a bit pretentious but they weren't self conscious about it, and I found the amateur nature and playfulness of the whole thing quite charming.

It was a sort of show that doesn't happen often enough that somehow made me rethink what I'm doing and what I want to do musically. And it wasn't really the music that did that! More the attitude of the band, who seemed so relaxed and happy to do exactly what they wanted to do.

Tl;dr over thinking things

Ha! What I'm trying to say is the way they went up on stage and did what they wanted (or gave the impression they did, in a way it's even better if it was an act within an act!) was inspiring to me because often when writing or recording I find myself thinking too much about what I should be doing, what vibe I should be aiming for, whether these lyrics are clever enough or too clever or......

It's great to be reminded of the importance of not giving a shit when making art.
