To play Devil's Advocate, Behnders.

That stuff fucking rocks. But it's DIFFERENT. In a good way. But in a way where my first reaction would be "do you guy even need me....and if so, where the hell do I even begin to fit in there". Sounds like you have a lot of the rhythm AND lead covered. Chick probably fits in well because it's all harmonies and shit. Not saying it's impossible for the guy to fit in. It just might take him awhile. I've been involved in music for decades and can usually fit something to anything.....but I would ask for a few weeks on that stuff.

But I love it. :!!!:

When Losers' Reunion first started I told the lead guit and singer that I have absolutely no creative bone in my body. I mean, I can put a bass line to anything.....but I can't just make something where nothing's there....I needed a starting point to put the bass to. After a few months I was in there bringing shit to the table right along with them. So it wasn't that I couldn't do it....more that I've never done it before. And with all the fucking pedalz and shitz you guys have shown me, I've been writing more now than I ever have before. :yay:

Tear that shit up, hoy. Get involved and rip that shit all over the place. :)*

I think we also need to figure out our collective vision. When I first started jamming with these guys it was "looking for musicians that are into Free Jazz", and while there are elements of Fusion in our music,...the Free Jazz aspect has kinda gotten lost. The song that we tried to arrange was in that mellow-ish free jazz aspect that devolved into chaos. (I also can't walk a bassline to save my life).

We've just never sat down and discussed our identity,...it just sorta took over out of frustration from trying to write songs. If we focused we could flesh out a vision and I definitely think it would probably be a Lightning Bolt ripoff, which I have no problem with cept to say that that hasn't happened.

What I really love is the "from the heart" and organic aspect of Mecha Shiva. We don't know what's going to happen when we take a stage. Our audience is the least suspecting and while it may turn a lot of people off,...the people that it turns on are the people we are hoping to hook. There are always at least 2 or 3 people at the end of our set that have never seen us before and they are just drop jawed; like "WTF just happened,....What was that,...what did I just witness". I'm all for coming up with a concept but at the same time,...I don't want to lose that meaningful shock value.

Just off on a tangent,....w/ regard to TBFX,....since I've come back from vacation,....I'm able to filter out the signal to noise and am actually enjoying checking out the new pedalboards that are cropping up in the PYPB threads and contributing my experiences and knowledge. I'm willing to cut that place a little slack nowadays.

What I'm noticing is that a lot of users will come in,...pose a question,...then abandon ship. Often times I'll post what I think is helpful information. Maybe a little wordy but I take my time,...make sure I'm getting my ducks in a row on the research and proofreading. I'll put in all this effort and there is often times no retort. I don't want to seem like an attention whore but if the whole idea of a discussion forums is to DISCUSS and people either ignore are show no gratitude for the sharing of knowledge and experience,...what is there to compel me to share said knowledge and experience.

I guess moving forward,...if someone has a difficult question I'll just let someone else waste their time answering it.

Maybe it's a result of the size of TB or the general frowning upon of going off target,...but the good people of ILF; whether they are guitarists or bassists,...seem to be generally gracious with and appreciative of the fostering of diatribe and banter.

Behn,...hows dah toofisez?

HoyToy - dood. i LURV the Mecha Shriveler stuff you've put up. so....... relaxing to listen to. if it was me, the only way i'd try to add structure to most of that stuff is be looking at it more from a Philp Glass, Music In Twelve Parts angle. he was more about having a general sense of control rest in his hands, since he was a composer, but he did that piece where everybody had a role for each of the 12 sections and i THINK he'd assign a letter to each musician? so he could be "5B" or "11N" to bring them in and do arrangements different every time. like, maybe just figure out a refrain that you want to be able to center around but leave it open enough to do your thing around/over it at any time? hard to fuck with a good thing.

we had a conversation with dooder about "let me email you some stuff tonight, you write what you like to play over it and we'll meet back in a week". turned into two weeks, was a jam instead of a writing session. i love playing, but i THINK we've tried to let him know that we're trying to get shit down to start playing. i'm all about songs. i love jamming and wish i could do the awesome It's Actually Fun To Listen To Not Just Play type shit ya'll do, but i'm not. i want to have SONGS to play.

lol. the tooth is still jacked, but the antibiotics have cleared up the horrible pain. gonna have to wait a week or two to get in and get massive work done. not looking forward to it but it's goooooooonnnnnnnaaaaaaaaa happen. *hugs* thanks for asking!

DoSieS - for sure. makes me think of Team Sleep. i like a lot of what they did. but if they'd gone a more Traditional Instrument route i think a lot of the purity that i enjoyed would have been lost. i'm FINE with having a less "normal" band setup. i'm not dumping on dood at all either. i think he's a HELLUVA guitarist. and very versatile. i'm just getting that Not Really Feeling It stomach uneasiness warnings. and i usually regret not paying attention to that.

Sousie - shhh. i'm HORRIBLE with compliments. i feel you. i guess part of me feels like IF i want to play with a guitarist, i want him to almost immediately just........ get me? click and understand what fits? i do get that i'm taking up a bit more space then is ceded to the bass usually, but that's the only way i'm somewhat decent at. i LOVE how my drummer does stuff. LOVE what chick-a-dee's doing. i want to be greedy and not settle for anything less than that same happiness at any other instrument i guess. my worry is if i'm being too unrealistic to expect somebody to blow me away after 2 or 3 times of flopping around. lol. blown away enough to be ok with having to write a gear checklist and go over their packing up before every gig.

Wicky Againz - d'awwwwwwww! thanks. yeah, that's just me into a TimeLine with an Ice (harmonic extralizer) patch. cutest thing? after sending that to the singer layday, next practice, "can we work on that slower one? the one that you had some recorded sirens or something going on in the background?". confusion reigns. go through the HUGE LIBRARY OF 3 OR 4 DECENTLY DEVELOPED IDEAS and realize what she's talking about. play it to show that it's just me fiddling with efx. "oh. huh. NEAT.".

i like her a LOT too. she has a very similar sense of humor to me and the hang aspect has been way too much fun.

....similar......sense.....of humor.....? :wha?:

That's the scariest fucking thing I've heard in a long time.....and I've worked in a psych ward.......

:p

But yeah, man. You don't have to worry about fitting in to any certain roles. Let the band fit around you. It sounds awesom. Doesn't need much to go with it, at all.

I feel you dudes on the band stuff. Tonight is my first band practice with this new band, and I'm coming in and replacing a bassist who was WAY above my current playing level. I mean, I can cop his stuff, but some of the little transitions that he played and stuff throw me for a loop every time I try to play them. So hopefully I'm not too much of a disappointment to the band tonight. We'll see.

Also, they have 3 guitars. THREE. I get that it's post rock, but it looks like I'll be playing nothing but little droning roots and stuff. Gonna have to figure out some way to keep me from getting super bored. I like that they are/were an established band before they took a few months break, but again, we shall see.

Awwww, man... i would like to jam with you ultra hard... with all of you! Doesn't matter if guitar or drums. I haven't played with my fellow bass dude for ages... kinda miss it. But he quit his Job so now we're going to have some more time for each other.... in a non-sexual way that is...

Mecha Shiva love orgy? I'm in, it's part of what gets me through the day at work. Head of department (whom I congratulated on his 50th while it was actually his 42nd bday recently, that'll put me next in line for a promotion) called it restaurant music during some of the quieter parts only to be freaked out later on.

behndy wrote:we had a conversation with dooder about "let me email you some stuff tonight, you write what you like to play over it and we'll meet back in a week". turned into two weeks, was a jam instead of a writing session. i love playing, but i THINK we've tried to let him know that we're trying to get shit down to start playing. i'm all about songs. i love jamming and wish i could do the awesome It's Actually Fun To Listen To Not Just Play type shit ya'll do, but i'm not. i want to have SONGS to play.

Just send him a link to this thread, if he doesn't get it then he never will and deserves to be kicked to the curb.

GrrGrr - dood. i miss gigging so much i'd take second established band spot in a hinute even if it was less interesting. long as the overall music sounds good. but i'm a layabout with way too much time on my hands right now. so that wouldn't get in the way of pursuing some i had more interest in.

just bring an octaver and do the occasional atonal filter sweep? take THAT three deep wall of noise!

Schlattey - fuck YESH. not enough interesting musicians around this yarea. or if there are, i don't know 'em. Mikey CultrVultr and Jean The Baudin are BEASTS, but not exactly people i'm gonna hang out with and jam. more just watch what they do with jealously and appreciation.

hAkestah - mein GOTT. he doesna seem like the kinda guy to spend a lot of time on forums. and blankly looked at me when i mumbled something about "fucking TB. LOVE ILF.". but tha would be.... awkward.

Yeah, I've kind of decided that I'll play this band because it'll get me out gigging, and I have a drummer who wants to start a little duo project that I've already started writing for, so I suppose that'll be where I use most of my effects.

Dear Delta Phoenix. I have received word that my Timeline is on its way.....to me....don't you dare think about hijacking said package. I have taken the usual precautions to make sure your grubby hands do not find it. Dumby packages, hired mercenaries, and a few other surprises that wouldn't be surprises if I told you about them.

Anyways, now that mine is on its way, I have released you from the voodoo curse that I put on you to keep you from getting a Timeline before me. If you try to get one now, you will have better success. Good luck. :thumb:

So I know it's like blasphemy of some sort here, but I just bought a Sansamp DI and it's fucking awesome. I needed something so that my interface would stop sounding like shit when I'm direct recording. The Sansamp has some really good tones! I'm super surprised! Now I can use it's DI on my GK head as well. God damn it I want my fucking PT Pro to show up already! I want to redo my board! I WANT MOAR!!!!!!
