I'd recommend the Palmer if you want to do that. The rear feet are height adjustable and the back doesn't have a bar like the PT so you get more mounting room.
I don't have it anymore so I can't mock up the dimensions but i'm fairly certain you would need to put taller feet on the front, it has more than 4cm clearance at the back but not towards the front.

that's a hip feature. i wonder if it would be complicated to retrofit a Pedaltrain with those screw-in feet they use for furniture and appliances?

Thanks. Never had a PT, i had a palmer for a while but it was the huge model, so the depth was a bit more anyway - adjustable feet are superuseful anyway, i just feared to breake those legs when moving it around even if i knoe they're very resistent.

welp - based on some similar lappies i've seen over the last 10 years or so, likely a verrry lightweight body and really short scale length, so fairly slack string tension and not the utmost sustain, unless you go for a really heavy string gauge, which...I don't know how large that bridge can take, esp. the lower strings - but maybe not too terrible overall.... I might fish around for a used piece instead, though.... That pickup is likely an improvement over the ceramic strat pickups you usually see thrown on those planks tho

So I'm on a bloody buying spree and reaaaally close to buying an Ibanez Artist guitar I've been eyeing for quite a while. Should I do it?
With customs added it's right at the top, or even just beyond of what I allow myself to pay for a guitar (1000 euros). It's a rare one with a cool colour. It's also similar to the two ibanez guitars I already have, but a japan built one rather than a Korean and made quite few years later. Buying guitars online is always a bit risky I guess, but last time (another ibanez about 10 yrs ago) was a real success! I deffo don't need it but it's a real want, I probably won't ever come across it again and would deffo have use for it or could prob sell it for the same amount.. I know it's gonna sound good for me, only thing is if the neck is waaay off what I prefer. It's not a bolt on so won't be able to swap it... Help me out here! :P

My big advantage is that I'm thinking in terms of "sound generation" instead of "sweet tone", so as long as the electronics work (not a given at that price point), it's giving me something I can pipe into my pedal chain.

Yeah, you'd really only wanna make sure the electronics are sorta reliable. I'd shop around and either look for something cheaper or spend a little more money and get something you know to be of half-way decent quality.

Guys who get into the whole Western swing serious playing do like shorter scales for facilitating slants—holding the bar at an angle rather than perpendicular to the strings to play intervals and chords. I don’t see a reason to do other than fat strings on a lap steel, but I’m not even a tourist in that country, so who knows. Intonatable bridges a failure of understanding by the manufacturers. Or, more realistically, a grab of the cheapest off-the-shelf bridge rather than spec’ing an appropriate part.

yep, shorter scale can make some slants easier, but there's other ways to grab your desired intervals on a lappie too (behind the bar bends, tunings, etc.). there's a sweet spot for ease-of-slant vs. the punchier/brighter/more-present tone and responsive feel available with ease in a longer scale, and many of these later model Chinese knock-offs aren't in it, imho. to be more specific, most of the guys looking for a shorter scale for slants are still wanting 23" scale length as opposed to the 25.5" or 27" you'll see on some rigs.... i'd wager very few of them are thrilled with the 21" available on planks like this Amazon jawn that is a look-alike for H.A.'s mark:


But again, that doesn't really matter for Heraclitus Akimbo...as long as the electronics work, it'll do what he wants.

Okay, I admit the double looks cool.

I did some digging around and found several variously branded ones like that one you linked on Amazon... there's a Harley Benton one and several others. My conclusion is that they're all probably from the same factory, so the no-name is no worse (possible random QA fluctuations aside).

So in the end I took the plunge and bought the Aliexpress cheapie. Will report back in 30 to 60 days.

Edit: I suppose I should look up what scale length is and why it matters.

Has anyone tried one of the little Hotone Nano amps? 5 watts and modeled on various amp styles (Fender, Vox etc). They are $99. They have tube amp styling (looks like vents) but I don't think there are tubes in there.

I wonder how they compare to other options like amp-flavored pedals (Joyo has cheap ones, Tech 21 has some too) or Mooer's micro preamp pedals (supposed to go in an amp's effects loop).

I usually use headphones at home (or just practice silent/acoustic) so I might just be kicking the tires here, and not actually a buyer.
