If it's a modulated delay, the pitch would go up and down, no? This just goes one way or the other (well, you can get it to sound sort of like a normal delay if you set the ramp to exactly 12 o'clock). But you can get, as you say, aliasing and ring moddy sounds from it by using short delay times and setting the ramp just right. They sort of battle it out, sweeping between the freq of the original note and the pitch shifted repeat.

i have a Bicycle Delay, too. i haven't really figured out what i'm going to do with it yet, but it's really fun.

ok, so its more like a mr black downward spiral with repeats going down in microtonal pitches as well as up? prob with a ring mod thrown in the feedback loop?

(I mean... sound-wise and function-wise... I know the Bicycle doesn't have an electronic eye)

I don't hear the resemblance personally. The LSDelay basically has a feedback and a time knob (and tone toggle). No pitch shifting or staircasing.
