Love me some Julie Christmas. She's very talented.

BTW, I know a good band from Belfast, Northern Ireland: Slomatics. Take a listen to their "Griefhound":

(David Main from D*A*M used this song for the Meathead page on his website...)

Slomatics were one of the first Sludge bands I ever heard.

black mess wrote:This may sound like the rantings of an old man, and it is to some extent, but doesn't it bug you a little that doom/stoner/sludge and even drone music are so fucking overhyped and trendy these days?

I mean, it's great for the bands to reach a wider audience, but I feel like these kids today that think they're so cool because they posted a Dopesmoker video on facebook are missing the whole point of the music.

This is the same for every style of music. You can tell how new to something someone is by how regularly they exclaim their new devotion; you can tell they're new to it based on how proud they are of themselves. Similarly, you can tell whether someone is new to Doom, or any style of music for that matter, by how regular they assert their new-found love. We were all there at some point in time.

Wow, I almost forgot about the Slomatics - thanks for reminding me, I haven't heard them in ages.

CaptainBoxman wrote:It can't be THAT overhyped and trendy because I'm one of the only people I know who even listens to it. I have to explain to each years set of housemates what I listen to, and they don't get it at all

I was in the car the other day with my mum. It was late at night and the radio was playing the usual Dance music. I turned it off in frustration, and my mum said she was listening to that. She asked me, how would you like it if I did that to you when you're listening to your "RAHHH" music?

Now, I'm not so full of myself that I can't accept someone comparing Dance music to good Heavy Metal, but she missed something key: the Dance and Trance music that they play at 11 o'clock at night is for boy racers, drunk half-naked sluts in discos and teenagers getting high on weak spliffs. It's uninspired, uncreative noise slapped together to form a repetitive beat.

I like dance music, I appreciate it for what it is. But this was remixes of Lady GaGa, who I quite like, the trite that has one purpose and one purpose alone: to give you little to think about. It's brainless noise with no emotion or integrity. Although Doom is arguably the same thing, there is great passion behind it. People LIVE Doom. It's a lifestyle for them, just like House music and Drum and Bass music is a lifestyle for some. That is wonderful to see.

The son of my guitar tech loves Drum and Bass. He does the same as us: join endless forums to discuss it with those similarly passionate. He takes long weekends away just to listen to it in a live environment. The guy loves it. That's what real music is. Could I tell the difference between House and the shit I was talking about? Maybe not, but I could tell the difference between a House fan and a Trance fan. You have someone who gives a fuck and someone who doesn't.

I'm the same; I really didn't want to have to leave, but I'm at the end of my tether. I have little patience left.

Holy Schnikes wrote:My Jazzy came in Wednesday. So good, head over heels for it.

I was initially worried about it being hella bright with that maple board and JM pickups but it sounds super FAT and gorgeous. The Custom Shop pickups DOMINATE the Antiquity IIs I had on my old Thurston Moore sig. The Antiquity set was so thin sounding and delivered those brittle ice pick highs I loathe. These, however, are fairly mellow and thick sounding while still retaining that trademark JM jangly sound.

Finish has very light "relic", kind of a worn in feel and look, neck feels great, and the body resonates like a mutha. Weighs in at 8.5lbs so it's a beefy fucker. Excellent all around and definitely a keeper!

Awesome. Big congrats to you, Shannon. It looks stunning, and I'm glad you're happy with it.

I just couldn't give up how good the Jazzy pickup sounds in neck. And how much I love the Jazzmaster neck. And yeah, just enjoy that fine piece of machinery. Oh wait, more importantly - how's the mini fuck?!?

God, both those guitars rule hard. That Tele is super unique, love it, first time I've seen it!

And the Mini Fuck is stupendous. I ended up selling my standard Fuck to Dunwich Nick after getting the Mini actually. Mini sounds every bit as awesome but even more tone variation onboard with the separate hi and low controls. Def has more low end on tap than the standard as well.

The bias control is a cool touch too. It'll give you that blown out sound form the standard Fuck only you lose the momentary stomp to access it.

My only real complaint is side mounted jacks but whatever, I deal with it.
