Hey bcbc, I heard from someone else that the Mesa Bass 400+'s DI comes after the power section. I've been searching for someting legit on the subject but can't find anything. Can you point me the right way? If it DOES get the power section in the sound, I might not mind being DIed at gigs.

For the DI to be after the power section, it would have to have one hell of a big power soak built into it. I'll do some searching around and see if I can get a real answer on that.

I've never heard this.. :idk: gotta say though the DI on them is pretty slick. I use mine for recoding a lot.

It looks like you're right, according to the manual, the DI is a tap off of the output transformer instead of a some sort of built-in power soak, so you're good to go, I'd say. Make sure you still plug into a speaker though, the DI doesn't replace the need to have a speaker load.

I think I may pick up one, after I go a round of waiting for pedals to show up and what not. So what I am looking for is something to match the Ohm out put on my head correct?

Kiiiiiiiinda......what's the ohm output on your head? If it's 8ohms, then you need one 8 ohm cab. If it's 4 ohms, then you either need to find two 8ohm cabs or one 4ohm cab. If it's 2ohms, then you need either two 4ohm cabs or one 2ohm cab.

Cool, man. Thanks. Heheh....I wasn't sio much right as I was pwned over at TB.

Hahaha. But yeah....that's cool. So I guess with my fEARful cabs being basically colorless....there's not really any point NOT to DI. And oh yeah, I'll always use my 15/6/1....our guitars are such bitches about being able to hear themselves loudly in the monitors....my cab is basically it for me.

I was talking in more of the relation to the power soak. I still have the original cab that came with the head and it sounds GOOD.

I'm an idiot with this kinda stuff, but you might need to look more at the Watts than the Ohms. I dunno.

bigchiefbc wrote:Well okay yeah. With a 300 watt tube amp, you're not gonna be able to get it to overdrive unless you're playing madison square fucking garden. I never get why everyone over at talkbass always pulls that shit about a bassist needing 500 watts or some dumb shit to keep up with a 100 watt guitar player. That makes no sense at all. My guitarist and I are both playing 100 watt amps with similar sized cabs, and you know what, our volumes balance great. So I don't know why everyone over there always wants a thousand fucking watts or some dumb thing.

I think it has to do with them guys barely touching their bass strings when they play.

You might be onto something there. I always notice at TB get-togethers that most of the guys play with much lighter touch than I do, except when they're slapping. I beat the apeshit out of my bass when I'm playing it.

Yeah....I was on the precipice....the Mesa 400+ was hanging over the edge....with a Glockenklang pushing it over.

The 400+ is figured to be 300W and it sounds GREAT when I first turn it on. But it gets WAY too much edge and growl after it's been on for about an hour. And Glocks are so awesome. And five babies are coming.....

But in the end I'm keeping my Mesa. Going to put a 12AU7 in the driver tube spot, though. Tame that edge a bit. But yeah, I beat the shit out of my strings.

This was my dream amp. So fine.

But there's no way in hell that's a good fit for a guy with five kids. Ah well. Good bye, Reeves Custom 225. :erm:
