So I heard back from some people about joining a band. They want me to come to one of their practices on Sunday. I'm excited because I've been trying at this for a while now. On the other hand, I'm absolutely terrified because I said I would sing as well as play guitar(they needed a singer/instrumentalist). Recently, I've grown more confident of my vocals, but I know as soon as I get in front of three other people I'll get nervous as Hell. I'm the kind of person who only sings when I'm alone typically in the car and very rarely in front of an audience. I need to be confident and able to let loose if I am going to sing well. Gah! Nerves and emotions, I suppose they let me know it's worth doing.
I've wanted to do this kind of thing for a while. What do you guys usually prepare for an "audition" as far as vox/guitar? I've been practicing a couple songs: "Where is My Mind" by The Pixies, "Rock n Roll Suicide" by Bowie, "Freak Scene" by Dinosaur Jr. and a couple originals. They said they're going for a garage/psychedelic rock sound, so I should probably prepare a few Strokes/White Stripes-ish and late 60's type psych rock songs. Any ideas?

I need another reference for a job application. Anybody? If they ask, your name is Leonard Rosterman. You were my neighbor and I used to house-sit for you when I was in high school.

Ice Cube is a horrendous excuse for a human being. Ice-T went the same direction, just not not quite as far. How do you go from Cop Killer to playing a cop on a show my parents watch without sacrificing your dignity?

I prefer him as a cop to be honest.
Also irony, destroying from the inside and ting. Not huge on Ice-T but going "He hated cops now he acts one in Law & Order" is pretty silly

From a bassist's (no vocals) perspective. When I audition for an established band I try to learn parts to the songs they already know. If you are shaky on the vocals try to nail the guitar parts. If they see talent and potential and are willing to invest a little time,...the vox will come with practice. That's what it's always been about for me. Challenging myself to get better by playing with musicians that are as talented or more talented than I. Also show a little enthusiasm,...but not too much. Make sure you are going to enjoy and can get into the music. Oh and good luck.
