Anyone have thoughts on the big Hilbish Sunn Beta preamp vs. the Sol Invictus Sunn preamp pedal? Gave up on finding a Beta Bass or Lead at a reasonable price + obscene amount of power wouldn't work with the speakers I have.

i'd spend the $50k, but I've almost saved up enough for this, can't spare the extra:

some of VG's other stuffs don't seem too too over-priced?

Once again second guessing is my name.

Brief sumup: I sold my Fabrikat at the end of last year because I already had a Particle2 which was more practical for my needs (plus other two devices working the same loop mangle territory), even if the Fabrikat sounded better than all of them. Fast forward to some weeks ago: decided to buy another Fabrikat because I was missing it and thought I could get use of some of its modes. Got the pedal last week and spent the last 5 days playing with it with the simplest guit->Fabrikat->amp setup ‘cause I really wanted to concentrate just on it and now… once again I feel like I just can’t justify its presence in my setup.

I love the sounds that I get from it, but I feel like I always end using the same 3 or 4 patches, and if I think about it with a critical point of view, I can obtain the same results with various combinations from other pedals I already have. The patches I love the most are the 1 or 2 head(2) sample playback - even if the fixed 1000ms buffer in the 2heads patches kinda annoys me – but I feel like I’m just getting tired of all the granular octave-up/reverse/random stuff, and with getting tired I mean that I use them to achieve effects that could be achieved better with other pedals (i.e. flanging, ring modulation, total chopped up tremolo, simple pitch shifting delays, etc)

Probably it’s time for me to move on from this kind of granular devices and go back with three different delays on board.

Just wanted to put down a running train of thoughts.

i was with you until the "three different delays on board"

but seriously, i guess it sounds like you have glitch fatigue, or just really don't like that effect as much as you like others.
in which case, maybe moving on from glitch entirely is the solution.
if you were inclined to give it a rest to see whether it's just fatigue, why sell the Fabrikat over the other pedals you've said don't sound as good to you? I guess, with the Fabrikat, at least you can make all your money back, which may not be the case for all of them?

haha, well i love delays, but i don't necessarily need 3 of those but, you know, a warm pt2399, a pitch shifting delay, and a third multi-mode digital one with a feedback loop? It's the minimum!

The case is that, as long as i strongly prefer how the Fabrikat sounds overall, i still find the Particle2 more practical for various reasons - i.e. keep the weirdest settings saved as presets because i'd have a hard time to find those again on the fly, or use the LFO modes for simple pitch shifting delays, or the fact that it has tap tempo and so on..
Obviously if i had the chance to keep both there would be no problem, but i just can't justify having one of those things laying around and not being used properly, it just bugs me.
But again...i'm divided.

Currently trying to convince myself that a new interface will be the magical totem I need to suddenly start being really creative and productive again. Looking at the Focusrite Clarett 4Pre, but they've been out for 5 years and I wonder when they'll be replaced and go on clearance. :trippy:

I can almost feel this, as I dont have a delay yet and I am already dreading if I get the "right one" or not

for bass, i would just get a straightforward digi at first...proof of concept
i almost never use delay on bass, but it sounds cool sometimes when i hear others doing it

I don’t really keep up with any of this gear, but when I mentioned to some folks I know that record that I might get a Scarlett interface, they said go with he Clarett at least. And one friend said just skip all the entry level stuff and get a used Motu Ultralite. But I’m not trying to set up my own legit recording studio so I don’t know that I need that much.

I agree, in band situation I would probably never have it on. But in the 90% of playing I do when its just me, I love how delay can add texture when your trying to do something melodic.

Same, I'm not trying to put together a legit professional studio, but I'm also tired of the limitations of entry level gear and I'm willing to pay more for better preamps, lower noise floor and latency, etc. From what I read about the Clarett series, the preamps and dynamic range are a significant improvement, and I like the I/O options the 4Pre has. I was looking at the UAD interfaces too, but it seems like a major factor for people who use those is having access to the UAD plugins, which I'm sure are great but I don't really care about.
