help me pick some new pickups for my p bass
the squire ones are kinda muddy arnt too loud

something drop in
diffs in hot output v low output bass pickups?

something that stays grindy clean with fuzz still has definition

ah yeah ok. The duncan designed ones aren't that bad if you can get a pair. Otherwise the only other p pickups that I've tried are Quarter pounders and EMG's. The EMG's were kinda bland and flat in my opinion and didn't do much till I warmed em up with a overdrive. The qp's were pretty ballsy though. Clipping an amp was easy with them if the gain was set high.

I use the DiMarzio P/J set in my Yamaha. Compared to my CV Jazz pickups, they're super hot. I definitely retain definition with fuzz, especially if I back off of the volume knob a touch. Super punchy.

I'll second the QP's I had a pair in my first Bass, a Squier. They sounded really good.

I like the QP P pickups but I'd like them more if they had a slightly lower output.

Tuffy, why not simply get Seymour Duncan basslines, a pretty standard pup available just about everywhere (at least here in FINland).http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass/

They've got a plenty of volume and range,too, the Presicion pups have good mids in my opinion, though I know a few fellow bass players who say they're far too modern. On would think the guys who prefer more vintage sounds (more mud, less output and treblz/presence) should get there by adjusting the amp.

BUT I admit, some freak fuzzes and vint fuzzes just sound a bit different with that... some don't handle the full load from high output pups. Sometimes You can get great results from rolling the vol knob back, and boosting the signal after the fuzzes.

We have a tradition here in Finland not different form Grampus, called Nuuttipukki. Pagan origins, much like the xstian tradition devilish Gramps. The goat-figure made of straw still has remained a traditional and a popular xmass decoration though the origins have blurred through centuries.

Actually originally there wasn't a nice Father xmass at all. No, just the guy in rags and horns, scorched black and coming to homes asking if there has been nice children. Sometimes alone, sometimes with a friend.

Even in my childhood in the 70's kids were still told that Santa brings the children either presents or might give them a beating or take them away with him (and eat them, I guess). An his xmass elves - elves that are dead spirits in Finnish folklore - can be invisible and they are telling Santa EVERYTHING what You do and say.

In other news, I just watched Troll Hunter last night. Fun flick.

So I'm starting what in theory is a kickass new job Monday. Combines my last 7 years of business to business electronic sales experience and my hobby as a bass player. I'm going to be the US sales manager for the guys behind the class d power amp modules that go in all the micro bass amps (among other things).

Whether you dig these kind of amps or not (I happen to love them), I'm super excited that I get to be in the industry with a lot of the major companies as my clients (a decent raise helps the excitement a little bit as well ). I leave sunday for a week of training in Denmark!

Yeah...I've been meaning to catch Troll Hunter. Looks awesome. I saw Attack the Block recently. Loved that one.
