so today i finally got to take my truck to be tuned up. it came in at $190, lower than the low estimate, and the mechanic took it to a friends' smog shop to check it and said it'll pass. so in a couple of days i'll be able to get the retest done for the smog cert and get the truck registered and FINALLY have that whole thing sorted. when i got home the $10 set of pickups i snagged on eBay for my Epi Les Paul Custom had arrived, so i dove right into getting that situation dealt with. i discovered that the original bridge PU was specced to 13kΩ, way over the neck PU's 8ish, so i replaced the bridge PU i'd screwed up with the neck PU from the identical new set and swapped the Alnico 5 magnet for the Alnico 2 magnet i'd bought from StewMac when trying to revive the dead PU. this fixed the brittleness that had always bugged me about the bridge PU, and in combination with the pickup cover removal and de-potting i did has made the Epi much more pleasant-sounding. it's got a big, warm quality that wasn't there before. so i'm putting today down as a double win. the truck is running beautifully now, and i managed to pull a bridge PU swap on the Epi for $18 plus shipping.

Talked with my boss yesterday and got my trip agenda for the summer: Myrtle Beach, Seattle, New York City, Vegas, Atlanta, and maybe DC again. So excited to travel.

Oh, I still have a little bit of money. Hahaha. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?! Oh, that's right, I haven't bought any pedals in like a year.
I blew my chances for getting financial aid next semester so maybe I'll save it for a while and get some GPA boostin' classes going next time.
I'm just so glad I still have some left.
