500 watts is for days of clean headroom through your micro 1x12.

I just got the mental image of a 1000 watt amp the size of a pack of cigs on top of a 20 X 1" cab

That rig would make most of TB Amps completely jelly.

bigchiefbc wrote:Well okay yeah. With a 300 watt tube amp, you're not gonna be able to get it to overdrive unless you're playing madison square fucking garden. I never get why everyone over at talkbass always pulls that shit about a bassist needing 500 watts or some dumb shit to keep up with a 100 watt guitar player. That makes no sense at all. My guitarist and I are both playing 100 watt amps with similar sized cabs, and you know what, our volumes balance great. So I don't know why everyone over there always wants a thousand fucking watts or some dumb thing.
Agreed, most of those guys are idiots any way.

1000 watts is for playing Sesame Street jingles. 1200 or more is when magic starts.

A lot of people start on one are.....bass...or amp....or effects...they focus on one and get insanely knowledgable at it but stay fucking tards with everything else. From half the shit said over there, my guess is that those dildos are needing that wattage to bludgeon their way through the mix. Fucking muddy muddy toanz for daiz.

So I was playing my amps again today, so fucking glad I didn't sell that GK head btw. Anyway, I don't think I need two amps. For real. One has to fucking go. I don't play both at the same time and really it'd be overkill even if I did. The GK NAILS 90% of the tone I like. Thick, dark, rich, huge. Sorry...I was talking about cock for a minute there. My cock.

But seriously, it's a great amp.
So that leads me to the Eden. I fucking LOVE the Eden 300t but at the same time, I kind of love my GK more. The Eden is worth WAY more than the GK. So if I did in fact sell it, I could have some serious cash for other gear. You know...more fuzz. Duh.
I'm torn though. What to do, what to do. FUCK!

I think you already said your answer! You could off the GK (and possibly second cab?) free space, and have some sweet pedals or otherwise!

Right now I'm all about doing what I enjoy. If you dig your GK more, then run with it. No reason to keep something around that you're not going to use and you can always come back to it at a later date, or a different tube head as well.

Aren't you fucking glad you used UPS to ship to some TB fossil? The GK head rocks, it's killed my Thunderverb GAS. Sell the Eden and get yourself a Stinger.

I'm all about only having one of things.....just one bass and one amp....but the best of the best. I'd much rather that than 3 decent things of each.
So....I'm still undecided. I love my Mesa Bass 400+....but it IS from 1982. Not the best with five kids on the way. I would need to get a practice amp to go with it. Maybe a Walkabout. I dunno.
Then there's the new Mesa Strategy coming out. That should sound very similar to the Bass 400+, would be a lot newer (hopefully less repair money), and has a feature that can switch it from 300W at 12 power tubes, to 160W at six tubes, to 80W at two tubes.....it's own practice amp. Pretty sweet.
Then there's the Reeves Custom 225. The cream of the crop. I love everything I hear on it. Totally reliable. But I've never played on a Hiwatt or Reeves....so as much as I like what I hear...it'll be like buying unplayed. And wouldn't I still need a practice amp? I mean, the only thing I'm concerned with having a practice amp for is prolonging the life of the amp and tubes. Weight doesn't bother me.....so I dunno.
And the darkhorse is the Baer Valkyrie. I've pretty much gotten into these all tube motherfucking awesome but still hifi and clean Mesas.....but this mostly solid state amp calls to me for some reason. It would totally be the easiest to have around with quintuplets....but would it get close to the sounds I love from the Mesa?
I dunno....those are my four targets. I'll have the cash in a month or two....just need to pick one.

A) multi-watt /power soak stuff is awesome for practice
and gigging (on my Mark V at least).
2) waranteed so no mainetenance costs (for the first year or so at least)
also) you love mesa toanz, it's got mesa toanz, what's the hold up?

Hahaha....the hold up is it comes out in July....and my bipolar ass has too much time in between there to see other things.
But I DO think that's my guy. I just hope it sounds like the Bass 400+. I'm sure it will.

The shittyest thing is that you'll build Waterpilot's most amazing pedal board toanz of all time.....then buy a tube amp and find out they all sound different on it and have to flip out your entire board.
