Chips made out of potatoes? Aren't those the same as any other kind of potato chips?

For some reason, I'm on a serious "vegans are idiotic sheep" tear. Some business-man is squirting his animal by-product onto a pile of money made by marketing "all-natural," "organic," and "vegan-friendly" products.

On a more positive note, Archer is awesome.

these are special. they're dehydrated potatoes. they aren't fried and that gives them a special amazing crisp that is just awesome.

don't hate on veganz mayne. it gets on my last nerves when people find out i'm a vegetarian and assume i'm some sort of peta poster child or some shit. i hate it when people are like 'YOU'RE VEGETARIAN?! BUT ANIMALS EAT OTHER ANIMALS!' who gives a shit? i don't want to eat animals, so i don't eat them. i don't care if other people do. they just smell gross. the world takes all kinds of people.

Yeah, it's not all vegans/vegetarians I dislike. It's that the motivations behind some (i.e. animal rights, "natural" is better) seem silly and not prone to hypocrisy. If you make the decision not to eat meat because you just don't want to, or because it's healthier in your particular diet, that's cool. But if it's in protest of something or any other negative philosophy, I'm disdainful.

In a nutshell, I'm against people who are against things rather than for something constructive.

i don't see the point of disliking people who choose to stop eating meat because of their personal philosophy either though. what's silly about animal rights? the meat industry is seriously fucked up. some people just quit eating meat to avoid it generally because their locales don't offer reasonable, free range alternatives to meat from big box stores. :idk: i also fail to see anything wrong with wanting to eat more wholesome, natural foods, especially in this day and age of monsanto, animal growth hormones, and preservatives. whether they choose to realize that by cutting meat out or just cutting back, does it matter?

i think it's just a dumb thing to get worked up about.

Yeah, it's simply the philosophy I don't like. I make my dislike sound more extreme than it is. I can see why people don't like the majority of the meat industry, but that has nothing to do with running into the woods and beating a deer to death with a stick for venison which isn't vegan. In that way, I don't logically see how being against the meat industry is any reason to stop eating meat altogether. Obviously my example is absurd and specific, but I think it'd be really bad-ass to chase down a deer and take it out with a swatch.

This is true. Although, when dumb people decide to become vegetarian/vegan, much hilarity ensues.

For example, my friend stopped eating meat to impress his girlfriend, but was under the impression that chicken was okay because it wasn't killing cows...or something...I was kind of confused as to his rationale...It's along the same lines as people who are like "Fuck yeah! Fuck eating meat! but hot dogs, I like...

Ok, I have to get this out.

Vegans rarely ever rub the fact they're vegan in anyone's face. The whole time I've been vegan, I've not done that once. In fact, I only let it be known when someone wonders why I won't eat something. Moreover, I've never had a vegan do that to me-- even when I ate meat. I have, however, heard a lot of shit about how it's "idiotic" to be vegan since going vegan, and the only defense is "meat tastes good lol" or "people have been eating meat forever hurrrrrrrrrr." (I add the hurrrr in my head, usually)

Potato chips are vegan. In fact, most white breads are vegan (discounting possible animal products in the form of mono and digliserides, but those can be plant based too). There's actually a list of vegan foods on PETA's website that is in NO way natural/organic. I believe Oreos might be on it.

I buy organic food, and I actually know why. The most selfish reason is that it tastes better. It just does. When I buy organic produce I basically never bit einto something and think "Oh, shit, that was a waste of money." Yeah, it costs a bit more, but I don't end up throwing food out half the time because it's completely bland bullshit. Another reason is that most scientific advancement in the agro business is for nothing but increased profits. The food is grown too fast, doused with herbicides and insecticides whether or not they're needed, and often genetically modified so the chemicals don't kill them and so they can grow where they aren't meant to grow. Ever looked in the organic section at the supermarket? Notice how everything's smaller? The food isn't supposed to be enormous and shiny.

Factory farming of animals is one of the most significant sources of greenhouse gases, but nobody talks about that because there's actually no money in vegetarianism. Yeah, there's been a big push even by corporations to make natural and organic foods, but that hasn't slowed down the line at Burger King. Here's an interesting fact: we produce way more corn than we need. It's incredibly cheap due to government subsidies and genetic modifications. It's really bad for cows. Farmers used to only feed them that when it was winter and there wasn't another option, but now it's all they eat. The cows get really gassy and belch methane. Moreover, bacteria grows in their stomachs and they get sick. Combine that with the conditions they live in on these farms, and it's impossible to say it isn't cruel. Cows and pigs are smarter than dogs. If someone raises a bunch of dogs like this (say, in a puppy mill), they go to jail. How is it OK to treat other animals like this? Oh yeah, because they taste good.

I know it's fun to say that veganism, vegetarianism, organic food, etc is just a corperate scam, but consider this: Over half of the United States is obese, and fake diet food, diet books, weight loss pills, etc are selling like hotcakes (and not organic, whole-wheat hotcakes). The largest medical expense in the united states is chronic illness from lifestyle choices-- like heart disease. Not to mention the sale of cholesterol and blood pressure medications. I'm 21 and weigh 20 pounds less than I did when I was 15-- most of which stemmed from my vegetarian diet, and I wasn't even trying. So, yeah. The food companies that make natural, organic, and vegan food are totally going to make some money off of me, and, IMO, it's way better than the other people that would be.

So if you want to eat nothing but bacon for the rest of your life, go at it. But don't act like you're somehow superior to those making conscious decisions about their diet while pretending -they- are the pretentious ones.

In the spirit of this thread, I feel way better having gotten that out.

Oh, and, yeah, Archer fucking rules.

I never meant to say I don't like vegans or whatever(although I may have unintentionally); I just see weaknesses in any philosophy that is more about being against something than it is being for something. If you're going to be a vegan for philosophical motives, you'd better have your reasoning water-tight. But what I quoted, that is a lie, and it always will be. :p

lol, I'm happy to have started this avalanche of needless debate. :yay:
