Literally just did the same thing. Couldn’t pass up a clean original HM-2 that came thru the shop. Did the power supply mod. Maybe sounds a little iffy. Didn’t even turn on before I did the mod tho so I wasn’t even expecting the pedal to work.

Lollar Pickups, who did the reissue Guild HB-1 humbuckers for the extremely limited Kim Thayil signature Guild Polaras, are now selling the pickups as individual items. these could be the weird humbuckers you’ve been searching for. if i wanted that sound i would absolutely stick a pair in a Starfire and go all 70s Buddy Guy. $210 each.

Dang, I remember when people were tearing those pickups out to put normie aftermarket stuff in. I'll bet some old timers are seeing that and doublechecking their junk drawers.

when you can find them, the original HB-1 and HB-2 (mini-humbucker) pickups go for $300-500 each. the Guild LB-1, which is their re-rub of the HB-2, are decent but underwound. that’s why i bought the Jetstar…i figured the neck was fucked and was going to repurpose the pickups, but it turned out that i liked the pickups in the sparkly blue DeArmond i was going to replace with the LB-1s and the Jetstar’s neck repair is solid.

i got this off Pedalboards of Doom on Facebook…Guyker has a new offset tremolo design that’s neither a standard JM design or a take on the Fender Bronco-derived Goldo trem as one might expect from the makers of what i’ll call the Even Les Trem, but rather an all-new design with a hinge instead of a pivot plate and a truly Long Boi handle the likes of which one normally sees on 60s Framus guitars. not necessarily convinced, but listening because i’m always up for a new and different non-locking tremolo.

I've been hemming and hawing for quite a few days about the idea of getting a Drunk Beaver TS-100.
The TS-15 looks pretty good too.

But I could also just get an actual Traynor TS-25 for less money (even with having it shipped direct to my door (but it will take up much more space and the space where I record and play music is already cramped)).
Or I could spend about the same amount and get a Traynor TS-75 (but I'd have to travel 3 hours to get it and it would take up even more space (but would unleash *more power*)).

So the hamster wheel spins in place (and I get nowhere (...fast)).

Been hawing and sawing overnights about that goddamn Life v3 pedal...

Back when, there was a craigsfist ad for a TS-200 with matching 2x15 in the Dallas area. Reasonable price. Talked myself out because I didn't need another amp. Export mode. Eventually got another amp that I don't think about as often as the TS-200.
There is a character limit.

i see Traynor heads and head/cabinet sets on Marketplace all the time. there was one with two 15” cabinets for insanely cheap but i have nowhere to put two huge cabinets other than using them as a bed frame.

There are a few affordable clones out there.

There's a TS-200 with two matching 2x15" cabs loaded with EVM15Ls for sale in Montreal.
The ad doesn't list price, so I hesitate to inquire. Usually not a good sign when an ad doesn't list the asking price.

Traynor TS amps used to be far more affordable across Canada—cheap as chips and just as omnipresent—but the internet let the cat out of the bag and convinced it to only accept meow-meow offers commensurate to what these amps fetch elsewhere for people operating under a different currency.

Deals are still out there. And definitely lots of fixeruppers. Just more rare now than they used to be.

seriously, this was like $300 for the entire package. i considered just keeping the head and taking the cabs up to Atomic, but i’d need help getting them in and out of the car if they’d even fit. the guy literally was like “buy this shit for less than the head’s worth, just please get these fucking cabinets out of here.”

i also can’t produce that much cash without some lead time.

At a certain point in time the kinds of solid state combos that I tend to gravitate towards were cheap and easy to find. I bought a Vox Essex bass amp (with original trolley cart and amp cover) for $80. I bought a Peavey Musician 400 amp head for $75.

A lot of people at the time almost thought of such equipment like those massive 1960s/1970s Yamaha organs or an old (out of tune) piano:
"This item is free if you'll just take it out of my house! Bring a friend and a truck, I can't help you lift it!"

I still kick myself about the Peavey Centurion (with original cab and original footswitch) that was for sale semi-locally for $130 CAD that I missed out on. At the time I had no spare cash and it was winter and so even the idea of driving an hour and a half on icy roads just to pick up a massive amp and cabinet was a bit off-putting. The amp and cab would have taken up 1/4 of the space in the room where I play and store gear.

But in retrospect the fish that got away was spritely and perfect and had a winning smile.

lately i’ve also been tempted by 60s-70s Kustom stacks with the tuck-and-roll upholstery. $200 or so, but once again way too much cab for my space. i don’t have a fucking warehouse like Creedence had.
