We’ll see.)
And it finally got here today, three whole months after I had posted about it. Hard to complain about free, and wow, cannot complain at all. This is a very solid feeling and sounding instrument—does not feel toy-like, even with the mini keys. I had another cheap but okay piano keyboard thing that was okay enough but this is just on another level for making me want to play more. Gotta get out those method books from Secret Satan! And maybe drive the Volca FM from the MIDI out to layer some EP sounds . . .

I wish they were availlable as a rack mount unit. Congrats! Great stuff!

i ordered a Roland M-120 line mixer to put in my 6-space rack so i can integrate drum machines, keyboards, etc. into the full setup. that meant something had to go so i figured i'd keep the SPX90 and get rid of the GEP50 which is limited in comparison. unfortunately, the SPX90 appears to be fried; all it'll do when powered up is make an awful noise that maxes out the level, the display doesn't light up, and buttons/factory reset doesn't help. so i figured i'd grin and bear it with the GEP50, but it turns out the memory battery is shot. unless i can fix it myself it doesn't pencil out to spend much having a less desirable 90s rackmount revived. so i looked at used stuff and researched a bit, and apparently the SPX900 is an improvement with less noise and more features that's a bit cheaper than old SPX90s so i figure i'll get one when my paycheck drops. the mixer is great, though it took me a little while to figure it out. my only qualm is that it adds yet another level of complexity to the "full setup," but if i want to integrate other sound sources into the signal chain i have to have a way to mix them. hopefully the range of effects in the SPX and MidiVerb units will do for tweaking non-guitar stuff that won't normally run through the pedalboard(s). in a perfect world i'd get a second parametric EQ like this one, but they're now over $300 well-used so that's not happening any time soon. i would really only need to run in stereo if i'm recording; i never run the guitar in stereo. i'm sure glad i bought the rack gear in the 00s when nobody wanted it and the utility units especially were dirt cheap. i think the compressor and EQ were both under $100 and none of is was over $150-160 if memory serves.

FB Marketplace, Guitar Center’s used stuff, and Musicgoround will sometimes still throw decent deals on rack gear, particularly utility stuff that might have been in a PA or installed AV setup.

It's an interesting gear day. Ordered a couple of Eurorack modules for the first time in a year: an MI Ripples clone and the Pet Rock, moon-phase based rhythm thing. Considering the Q-Bit Stardust to run my Moog Grandmother into.

Also, my Wren and Cuff Mystery Box arrived today! I had no expectations going and am thrilled with what I got. It's a Tall Font Russian, in purple sparkle finish, with a Cream mod switch. I didn't NEED another Muff, but I love having them. I still need an Op-Amp of some sort, tho.

A Roland S-1 synth popped up from a reverb saved search and I snagged it. Micro polysynth with with oscillator, envelope, filter, and LFO sections. I've enjoyed the J-6 I have (Juno chord synth) which is in the same form factor, so my army of portable synths increaseth.

Image

I've only barely turned it on and fiddled a bit to see if it works, so there's lots of exploring to do yet. Like the Juno, a lot of the functionality is wasted on me: I tend to just think in terms of playing "live" on the keyboard rather than sequencing things, although with the S-1 I should really dig further into that side, as one should be able to get some nice drones that way.

(Plus, I always say when I get another one of these MIDI-able/sync-able things that I should invest more time in thinking about stringing them together, though it's something I seem to never get around to — maybe just because conceptually "as slow as possible and out of sync" is my default sonic headspace.)

On Tuesday I received an phenomenal pedal triple: three absolutely unused Pearl Sound Spice pedals in perfect brand-new condition! The seller inherited them from some sort of audio unit collector or something like that. The three units have been in originally sealed state until last week when the seller did photos of them. The heat-sealed battery that was in the battery compartment of the Flanger is from January 1980. Fortyfive-year-old pedals - and they are NEW!

I was fortunate having been the first one who replied to the ad. At first I only wanted to purchase the Phaser that I had until December. When I checked it before sending it off to the buyer I thought that I had better kept it, because it sounded really great. This is why I instantly sent a message to this seller with the New Old Stock Pearl pedals, adding that I was also thinking about purchasing the Flanger. The seller soon replied that I should better hurry with the thinking, because some other offers already came in, so I took the two pedals and paid them. An hour later I sent another message to him, saying that I would also take the Chorus if it was still available, although I had doubts that I could really need another chorus.

Now I am so glad that I bought this modulation pedal set. No regrets at all! :!!!:

The PH-03 Phaser sounds as great as the one that I had until a few weeks ago. Lush '70s 4-stage phasing.

The FG-01 Flanger is somewhat like a mix of the BOSS BF-2 and the BF-1. Very deep flanging with lots of feedback on demand. I really think that it rather sounds like a very clean sounding BF-1 without the noise floor. Really nice, because somehow from time to time I miss my BF-1 that I sold to Dandolin a few years ago, but whenever I think of its heavy noise I'm glad again that I passed it on. The Pearl Flanger might very well be an unexpected gap filler. I have to explore it sounds a bit more when I find the time.

The CH-02 Chorus suprised me the most. I'm not the hugest chorus fan and when I want to have a chorus sound, I'm quite picky. There aren't too many chorus effects out there that I really like. But the Pearl Chorus nails it! It has very deep modulation on demand. I guess the delay time is twice as much as that of the BOSS CE-2 (I have to check the chips in the next days). Very cool options come with the knobs Tone (decreasing brightness - from "10" to "0" - of the modulation sound only) and Mix Bal. (Dry/Wet knob, enabling full vibrato sound in maximum position and less drastic sounding chorus at lower values). I'm happy that I bought this pedal as well. It is awesome!

Now look at these pristine units!

To my suprise I managed to win an ebay auction with a flawlessly looking Japanese BOSS SD-1 two weeks ago. The seller didn't state that it was Made in Japan, only one of the pictures of the black label revealed it. That must be the reason why it kept at a rather low price. I missed the end of the auction, because I saw no chances winning the pedal with my bid. A few hours later I was surprised to see that my bid indeed won the auction. Had another buyer thrown in another bid, I had instantly been outbid.

The pedal, produced in 1987, is in almost perfect condition! Only a few marks on the front of the treadle reveal that it must have been taken out of the box at some point. It had a Duracell battery attached to the battery clip. The negative pole was corroded with the clip, so this broke when I tried to remove the battery. But luckily there was no battery acid in the battery compartment! There is no manual, but the box and the plastic bag look like new. As does the whole pedal apart from the one spot on the front (and I still have to clean it - it might be that a dirt eraser could scrub away the marks). I doubt that a foot has ever touched the treadle! Everything looks so new. The pedal must have been tried for a few minutes and then been put back into the plastic bag and inside the box. And the box must have been stored away in a dark and dry place, because it shows no signs of discolouration and it also smells like a new BOSS pedal box.

Another crazy deal, like so many in the last months! Now I want to have some freetime and some healthiness so I can do something with all the treasures that I hunted down.

Pepe you always find the good stuff. What a cool little collection.

After some time with the Boss PS-2, I understand why it is revered here. It really is such an interesting pedal- and I’m glad I got one.

I’ve been digging on small, simple reverbs. Ordered a Subdecay Super Spring Theory and Mr Black blood moon just to see what they’re like.

Also the Landscape Ferrous super ebow thing is back in stock at perfect circuit so I ordered one- very curious to use it. It seems right up my alley.
