I'm no expert on this subject but I think the MicroKorg would be a great first purchase to introduce you to synths. If you buy a used one then at least you will probably be able to sell it for the same price you paid for it when it's time to upgrade.

I would probably opt for a microkorg but I really don't like the tiny keys. it just aint right

Sure, the keys are a bitch, programming, saving, recalling sounds is a bitch, but it's a $250 vocoder! Can't imagine flipping mine, unless I give birth to a better vocoder some stormy night.

Good or bad idea? I have no previous synth/keyboard/piano experience.
Looking to start.

the stock sounds are not shit but the keybed definitely is IMO. they break, the key action is shit. if you have another keyboard to use as a controller and a midi cable then microkorg for $180 with maybe one broken key is a decent buy. the mic is also shit unless you get the XL

Any of you guys had any experience with the Waldorf Blofeld keyboard?
I can pick one up for $700 (including a custom flight case, stand and cheap mixer).
Demos sound awesome, only con I've heard is the shitty encoders.
Been meaning to get into synths for a while now but pedal GAS kept getting in the way

Blofeld is a really nice synth. If it's a modern-ish poly with shitloads of possibilities you're looking for, just go for it ;)

hell yes. try to download some better presets or make your own. the stock presets do not really show off what it can do. that flight case could be worth as much as $200. your getting the blofield for $500 if you think about it like that.

That's a great deal for the Blofeld! I love mine, but the presets are garbage (some can sound good, though, if you want to do some tweaking). I just took over the sound effects bank and started filling it up with my own settings.

Thanks for the input guys!
I plan on making my own settings for everything so thats not an issue, I just wanted a versatile poly really. The only other options at this price point where I live are a new Ultranova or Gaia.
The guy won't hold it for me and I have to wait another week until my student payments come through until I can afford it so looks like I have some borrowing to do..

Expect either pictures, or tears of anguish within the next few days

EDIT: picking it up tomorrow :yay:

Blofeld keyboard for $700 is effing steal! Congrats man, I'm hoping to get a Blo for myself in future. I have Ultranova but multitimbrality of Blofeld is a big deal for me now. I want to get a desktop version and use it with sequencer (which I still need to get too and I don't know which one yet).

My sad synth story of today: I went to a local shop that had Roland Juno 106 to try it out just to find out that it was sold yesterday. And a guy who bought it got it for his daughter for playing piano. I really don't see how Juno 106 is a good solution for that and I hope he will return it by Monday :)

I am trimming my Synth stuff down to Tempest, and Minibrute (plus some cool cheap drum machines and NI Maschine). I have an Elektron Octatrack for sale , hit me up if you want a mindblowing performance sampler/mangler. I'll get one when I can afford to keep one.
