Urrr, mine is "held at customs" now, I really hope it's not broken as it was definitely sent after they "improved" packaging.
As mentioned several times before, individual boxes or even a box with compartments would be such a simple solution for this...

My wife just sent me a text message, my Folktek Mescaline just arrived (with about $20 in import taxes, could have been worse).
I'll check it this evening, I really hope it survived the travel without any issue.

I have to go back home, feed myself and my son, get him to sleep, do the dishes and fold the laundry first to earn the right to play with the Mescaline.
I'll probably check for loose components while eating though ;).

Just don’t hold the board above your plate while checking

So far everything seems fine :excellent:
No broken components, and after putting everything together all 3 boards light up and I do get sounds and CV where I'm supposed to...

Matter will take some time to get used to but the other two seem more obvious.
I still have to adjust the touch sensitivity and the input/output levels, that will be for tomorrow I think.

It might be a good idea to rename the thread to be a more generic "about Folktek Mescaline" thing rather than just indiegogo /

Also, a few observations after playing with mine for a few hours :

- on Mental, when plugging things in the small patchbay, always start from the bottom row. Things are much more readable and easy to manage that way.
- Left and Right on Channel should probably have been called 1 and 2. It does not seem to be proper stereo to me but rather dual mono (i.e. any link between L and R depends on how the effects are coded). I get better results by plugging these two outputs in a 2 channel mixer than when having them hard panned left and right...

Also, that thing makes my eurorack feel like a giant thing full of space.

I'm wondering how much the Mescaline will always sound like a Mescaline, at least when used as a standalone system. The sequencer definitely has a specific vibe to it. Mental has a great range of sounds and while they're definitely unique they are also different enough from most other things to be somehow recognizable. Channel's oscillators are nice but not very flexible. And the effects are really cool but once again, their personality is a bit obvious.

I do really like how it sounds and I'm not complaining at all as that's part of the thing about getting an instrument that is designed by someone who focuses on achieving personal goals, as seems to be the case for Folktek. But I'm wondering how much people will be able to "tune" the thing their way and make it their own instruments. This should be much less apparent when used as part of a bigger modular system, but as a standalone instrument it really does have a strong personality (and once again, no complaints here, that was a given).

I think it's also easy to end up with lots of things happening at the same time because it does sound really good, and I guess focusing on simpler elements and mastering them takes more time and efforts.

Anyway, happy customer here :).

I think I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather just build a system, so I guess mine is for sale, if anyone was waiting to get one.

Until you buy any more synth/broketek/modular gear I have a challenge for you, and unless you clear it you’re not eligible for further purchases.

This will test your mental fortitude, and show whether it is what you truly want.

To buy another Folktek (or start buying modular) you must:

*Record 3 simple, but layered 40 second long covers of known songs.

*Record 1 song live that is your very own creation, that in some way changes over the course of the song. At least 1 minute.

Extra points will be granted for using your synthesisers to synthesise a drum beat.

Do what you can with what you have and earn that which you want, or at least the knowledge of realising what you want.

(Layered song does not need to be recorded in stereo, but smart use of layering/mixing/planning your sounds give extra points. The absolute lowest requirement that qualifies is a smartphone recording.)

I believe in you.
