Especially talking about consistency. BIG TIME
If by that you mean they've more or less made the same good record three times over, I agree.
SwAC/DC is pretty nice.
That's not fair, My Father... seems much closer to the mid-to-late-career stuff because it's much more "songy", it's really The Seer and To Be Kind that do have a common aesthetic lets say
I dare you to find older Swans albums that would be as good front to back AND album to album. Except for Soundtracks for the Blind which are phenomenal but totally unprecedented, too.

If you tuned into the live shows around that time you'd find that the MF.... material was already developing into stuff that sounds like it should have been off The Seer/TBC. See Gira's commentary about how No Words/No Thoughts should have been longer but he pussied out on record and the 20 minute versions they played on tour (so many bells):

You are right, though, in that it definitely still featured songs that were in an Angels of Light mode (this may be why it's the best record of the three).
But, if you're asking for groupings of records in the Swans discog that are just as good as the three reunion albums as a trilogy, I'd say Greed-Holy Money-Children of God or White Light + Love of Life both qualify.

But I like all of Love of Life.

Which has been discussed earlier. Amnesia is one of my favorite songs ever.

I mean more or less all of the new Swans records are elaborations on themes (musically) that were buried in those two albums, but I feel like most of the Swans dickriding (not that Axel's doing this, just in general) is codified into glorifying the Public Castration-era live reputation and the jam band excesses of the last two records, which leaves a lot of really great music out to pasture because... it isn't cool? or something.
And I say this as someone who's a big fan of the band and likes the reunion records quite a bit.

I do admit I got into Swans (I got to know OF them even) after The Seer came out. So that was basically my introduction to the band... and it took me a while to stomach but it sort of got under my skin because of how vast and free for interpretation and emotional response this side of them is
whereas... you know... A LOT of the mid to late era Swans is very "normal", traditional songwriting. Which yes, has more meaning on its own, but it doesn't give you the freedom to interpret it yourself and get lost in the trance of the repetitiveness as much

Yes, there are incredible songs for sure ("Failure" comes to mind) but in general it just seems so tame in its form to me. Too... concrete. That's why I like Soundtracks... so much. Because it's mostly abstract as fuck
Might just need to listen... better you know?

a lot of the normal stuff on MF is awesome. Jim is great and Eden Prison is like the best combo of the normal and the fucked up. That disharmonic climax is one of the most hard-hitting things I've ever heard and I swear every hair on my body shoots straight up when I hear it.

Soundtracks is my favorite record (single-standing) of theirs, actually.
Probably important to contextualize their other records with what was happening at the time.

I've never been able to do that with any band actually. Probably the reason why I find Beatles pretty boring

as much as I like pre roots Sepultura… their version of Orgasmatron is not as good as the original.

The studio one, no. the UAPGS version is the best one going by any band ever.

For the Post-HC / Post-Punk lovers out there...IMO anything with Anthony Green and/or Jonny Craig in it is highly over rated!
