That Premier snare looks AWESOME! :thumb: I would rock that for sure.

I have been using the Ludwig LM402 (Aluminum 14x6.5" snare) with Remo control sound (reverse dot) head. It sounds sweet and cuts though hundreds of pounds of thousands of watts of guitar and bass amplification just fine.

The only think that I would possible change, is the fact that for some of our longer songs, a few of the lugs will back off and loosen beyond finger tight. Granted, I am playing with long heavy sticks, (Vic Firth Metal) so this is fairly common. IF... If I were to try to replace it, I might be interested in a DW Collector Series 14x8" brass snare. I quite like all the big "Camco" style hardware. And the snare throw is well engineered. From the sound clips that I have heard, it sound pretty sweet. I would be happy with their 14x6" offering, but I like the one-direction-lugs, having lugs at the top AND bottom of the snare.

There are other fairly expensive snares out there, (Tama and other Bell Brass offerings) but those are too rich for my blood. Even if I COULD afford it, I would be nervous as hell that some blowtard would try to walk off with it. But I tell ya, its a great time to be a drummer. There are literally TONS of sweet ass drums and cymbals out there. Given proper head selection, snare wire selection, and tuning, you can make a rather modest snare ROCK! I was checking out http://memphisdrumshop.com/snare-drums/ ... -layered=1 last night. I was checking out the DW snare that I had mentioned. They do an awesome job of demoing the snares. The play them at many different tuning to give you a better idea of what they sound like. I was impressed with a simple Tama 14x8 snare. It was cracking! It was also the least expensive snare of the bunch. So there ya go...

I have a couple of other snares that are pretty cool too. One is a sweet 1990s era Tama Artwood 14x8" birch snare. I love it and it is awesome! It was not played for years because I broke a super hard to find lug. After years of searching, I walked into a drum shop and someone was like, "Hey wait a minute. Weren't you looking for a rectangular Tama snare lug" Me, "Yeah". So he produces a beautifully looking perfect replacement and gives it to me for free!!! Awesome. It is part of my practice kit now. I don't dare drag it around to shows for fear of fucking something else up. LOL.

I haven't personally used them but I know a few people that have. They aren't bad for the money, they are a lil pingy with a unique sustain but they are durable and cut through a mix pretty damn good.

Gimme reasons not to buy these?

1) Head selection and availability is near zero
2) you can't position the kick drum pedal beater to hit close enough to the center to gets the correct response / feel / sound
3) you must install your own spurs to use them as actual kick drums, which will not only add more to the cost but can be a pain in the ass to layout / drill / install

You've all ready got a 26" maple kick, theres really no need to go bigger, and if you do theres a reason the largest you'll typically find companies building / selling is a 28". And thats because it almost falls in to the above reasons as well, anything larger definitely fits into the above reasons.

because like I said earlier... bigger does not mean better in drums. scaling up in guitar and cabs does have an impact in a postive way. scaling up in drums just makes everything muddier and not good. mainly all those points that Ancient said.

and you would be doing to mainly to take picture of it and to say it dooms because it's practical use is zero. looks better than anything else.

The brutal, but necessary truth.

I just picked up a 28 last night

The heads would be a pain but i though evans did customs? I know they do custom snare heads, a friend of mine gets huuuuge ones made.

I could fab a new kick pedal rod in seriously 10 mins for my iron cobra. The majority of the time spent would be machining the part and deciding what metal to make it out of. however im sure it would get very slow to respond very quick.

And spurs.. yea..

I think i need to find a chhheap ass one to fuck around with?

I hate points of no return guys :(

Yeah.. no to the 32s for all the obvious reasons everyone else has stated. After 26" bass drums, you quickly get into the law of diminishing returns. I would say cool if you only planned to use it for effect. Like, instead of a gong, have a huge bass drum. That is pretty cool, buy you are limited to concert bass drum heads for the most part.

If I couldn't go with my 26" bass drums, I might be able to get by with a 24" bass drum. I can't really see going back to 22" again though. Never say never though I suppose. I was watching Dale Crover again the other night digging on what he was kicking out with his kit. He runs a 24"x17" bass drum apparently. If I went with a 24", I would prefer a shallower depth. 16" max.
