Yeah, I received the largest tax return of my lifetime this year and I've been busy seeing how irresponsible I can be with it.
Got a great deal on this one though, I've had my eye on it at a local mom n' pop store since last summer. It's the Fender Antigua Telecaster Factory Special Run (FSR), only #180 released in the States, MIM that usually goes for around $699. I got the guitar and a Fender Black Tweed hardshell case for $549. Couldn't pass it up. Gonna throw some of the money I saved into a set of Bare Knuckles for it most likely, then it should be good to go.
The EGC, however, was an engagement surprise gift from my lovely wife-to-be. She just offered to pay and I got with Kevin on the design and details, like a shopping spree of sorts. She's obviously a total keeper.

Thanks. The finish is called Antigua, something Fender released in the 60's, brought back for a bit in the 70's, and now brings it back for the occasional limited run.

Not likely but if I figure it out, I'll send you the first successful clone sylnau.

That Tele has to be the only Antigua finish I've seen that I like. It's just right on a Tele,...Strats and the Antigua Jazz Basses I've seen look horrid.

Yes, its very fine line with the Antigua and it def looks better on a Tele than the rest. I've seen a Jazzy with matching headstock that was interesting but it just looked wrong/weird.
One feature I wish it had was a body contour like my old '72RI Tele Deluxe, makes it so much more comfortable than the straight plank digging in. Ah well, can't have it all....
Holy Schnikes wrote:Got one of these incoming after finding some closeout pricing. Getting back in the Tele game, it's been a long while.

Already spent my Tele savings on a set of Bare Knuckle Flat 50's. High output vintage style singles with a Flat EQ and 4-way switch mod to get added position (bridge + neck series/HB mode). They apparently sound HUGE, love gain and pedals, and sport gorgeous cleans. Bare Knuckle has yet to disappoint in my experience so expectations are high. I've never jived with the thin and twangy classic Tele sound but I love the feel of those guitars. Set out to make this one sound how I prefer.

Fender 4-way switch to get that added position:

Callaham Bridge Plate and Enhanced Compensated Stainless Saddles. Had one of these on my first Tele ever, installed by the previous owner and held onto it for just this occasion. While it differs from the traditional Tele sounds, the thicker plate construction adds some obvious girth and fullness to the sound along with increased resonance and sustain. Saddles simply ensure I don't struggle with intonation like usual with these vintage saddles.
Paired with the Flat 50's, this Tele should be a BEAST!

Wooo, that Tele should be gorgeous!!!
By the way,
This is the real "not for pussies" Antigua finish I have on my Jag

:

It stills making my eyes bleeding but I come close to get used to now...
But I made my choice and will purchase a red pearl pickguard so my eyes won't hitch me again

when I'll look at her!!!

Haha,
Thanks,
I wasn't expecting your reactions and it feels good!!!
Everytime a fellow musician around here, or even a friend, see my Jaguar it's like they start feeling nauseous and are about to vomit on my shoes

I have an "Antique Pelham Blue" LP Custom, shot first with Pelham then covered with a yellow lacquer by Gibson to give it an aged look. The end result is an olive green metallic that I adore but most people are repulsed by it haha! Come to think of it, most my guitar finishes are pretty polarizing, strange taste I guess. I obviously have a love for green though, something I didn't do intentionally. To me, that Antigua is perfectly weird though.
And here's my LP for reference:

And my Jazzy, not everyones' cup of tea either. I love every aspect of this guitar though, probably my favorite Fender ever.
