I don't do drugs and I don't intend to start any time soon.

Yeah, IMHO, everyone should eat a mushroom/trip and smoke some weed at least once in his life, just for the experience of it. I'm in no way advocating overdoing anything tho.

S'all well and good but forgive me for thinking otherwise.
Seriously, why is this always the response I get? I think you should have the right to do what you choose, but I don't want to pollute my blood with some poison that grew out of the ground, I don't care how awesome it might feel.

Do you drink coke, coffee, alcohol, smoke cigarettes? That's poison.
A trip is more in lines of a virtual reality experience. Like watching a movie you're creating yourself. A walk in a car-crowded city will hurt your body more than LSD or mushrooms.
And weed is not poison. It's in line with aspirin.
And these are like, more like facts. Not really opinions.

Eh I used to be straight edge but I loosed up about drinking. I've never considered the other stuff though. After seeing a lot of my piers use various substances it's just turned me off even more.

Coca-Cola, coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.
Those're all socially acceptable drugs.
No drug is inherently good or bad, it's all in how it's used.
Don't try to push people to do things they're not ready to do.

Soda is just straight up bad for you. Never touch the stuff. Coffee and many kinds of alcohol have shown to have positive health benefits (in fact the only negative effect of coffee and caffeine is counteracted simply by drinking more water - and if you want to go really extreme with amounts, making sure you have enough sodium and potassium in your diet). Cigarettes are like soda, just straight up bad for you. I used to smoke and I enjoyed it but it isn't worth the damage to your health. Most drugs have little to no positive health benefits, and are often paired with detrimental effects - not even counting addiction. Weed may have some benefits, however recent studies have shown a significant IQ drop associated with regular use. It is likely that we may get some good medicines from derivatives of weed, and it may also have a place in treating some ailments, however to call it on par with aspirin is ridiculous.

+1
While I'm not a drug user, I don't care if other people use drugs. Seriously, I couldn't care less if people do drugs or not, as long as they're being safe about it. And as long as they don't try to push them on me, or look down on me for not using drugs, or think that my not doing drugs is some kind of judgement of them.

Maaaaan. I'm ok with people not wanting to do drugs, but I really hate it when people are misinformed. Mostly not by their own fault tho.
So.. there are drugs that are shit: cocaine, heroin, speed, blabla bullshit..
BUT, there are drugs that are
not addictive,
can't hurt you; well, they can if you take 20+ trips or eat 13kg of mushrooms (you can't eat a fucking 13kg of anything).. but have the potential to give you different perspectives, to give you ideas you never really thought before and really, shed new light to every aspect of your life you think about on the trip: lsd, shrooms, dmt..
And there is weed which is.. like.. weed. Better to smoke weed than to drink alcohol if you ask me. But I hate alcohol so I'm biased.
@Chank: I'm just sharing info
Another part that I believe as a shaman is that, you want to give your trip a purpose, not waste it. Respect it, but not take it too seriously. But that's another subject and this is discussable and more dependent on the individual. I just wanted to sort out a few ideas that weren't really true.

No, alexa., I know you mean well, but people have to engage substances willingly.
On their own terms. They have to be open to it.
You know, set and setting and stuff like that?
Being a missionary for psychoactive substances is just as bad as being a missionary for anything else.

Inherently, no doctor would ever recommend inhaling smoke of any sort. It's just...that's like not a good thing. Plus, every drug (read: every single drug of any sort ever) has a neurological effect. And thus, you're impacting your brain chemistry in a way that could be potentially permanent. And this varies for each person. And you can never know until you find out.

Weed is inhaling fire. And just so you know, it is addictive. It has a low risk for dependence, but the risk is not zero.
As far as trips, yes, telling a person who has issues with paranoia to trip doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. You ever think that your headspace might not be the same as mine with this stuff? I can't think of anything more terrifying than watching a movie my mind made.
I'm as sick of drug apologists as I am of religious apologists. I really don't care if you want to do drugs. I don't. I think you should be able to buy black tar heroin at 7-11 if you wanted.
But I don't want to and that's all the reason I need not to..

Guys, let's not get into this discussion. It's not gonna be productive.
You both make valid points. Let's leave it at that?
