Well duh. Piss Christ is way better than the Venus de Milo. Migos' "bad and boujee" wipes the floor with beethoven. And yes it's real cute to poke fun at the co-exist sticker but at least those are well intentioned. The "SJW left" is not nihilisitc, its just the flip side of conservative politics. I get it, people are shitty and obnoxious. Hypocrisy and fake indignation aren't exclusive to one side though, and screaming for justice isn't nihilism. I feel like everybody just tries to out Bill O'Reilly each other. "YOU ARE WRONG AND DISGUSTING SO I WILL NOW SPEAK OVER YOU. EVERYBODY BUY MY BOOK ABOUT HOW WRONG THIS PERSON IS."
I think you're missing the point.
A.) Often the kind of criticism against the SJW left either from people in the left/center field or the right is that the SJWs are anti logic and reason. I think this is true or can be for many but that doesn't mean conservatives making such claims are themselves totally behind reason and logic as many deny climate science on climate change when there is no way they can do so logically when there is so much evidence to support CC.
B.) Having said that about conservatives and their ability to also be inconsistent, they are right that SJWs often ignore or don't care about reason and logic and therefore it is true that many of the SJWs and this feeling-based left are nihilistic in that they don't believe in truth - there is no metric with which to hash things out and prove them logically or have them refuted logically. In philosophy there became these two branches: the analytic philosophy and that of the post-modernists. The latter offered (offers) some good critiques of the potential problems of Analytics but often it's all just theory and no way to substantiate their claims. Then from there you had more younger generations and thus new professors and thinkers building on these post-modern theories that are just theories. You can step into the world and structure of the theories and you can actually see the world
through them, but because you can see the world through them doesn't necessarily mean you're seeing the world as it is. Those lenses don't necessarily reveal the world and reality as it is but gives the viewer a way to view the world. I think this is a huge problem and is just like religious dogma but is ideological. You can of course say religious dogma is ideological dogma which I agree with.
SJWs may believe in a cause or causes with which they fight for but they may not believe in some standard of truth or metric of proof which I think does exist and that is logic and reason.
Also, I don't think all conservatives think one way and I actually watch Fox News and O'Riley factor in addition to other news sources and Bill'O can and does make valid points. For a lot of conditioned folks they will find this impossible to believe in a knee-jerk fashion. I used to think so too thinking everything was that simple that Fox was the devil and MSNBC were the good guys. My stupidly and over simplicity, yes, but thats how I thought. I'm not saying Fox is a great news org in it's entirety but you can and will find truth there at times and it's important to be able to see that: To be open to seeing or finding truth in areas in which you already have dismissed there not being any.
This is where it gets into the nuance of the political spectrum that people often do not want to get into. It's easier to pick a side or brand or group and go with what they think, their talking points, etc.

I just thought his cultural references were lame. Its cool that you have logic and reason to believe in and you are totally entitled to your opinions
but Bill O'Reilly is trash.

Does that mean you know with certainly anything he ever says, any point he ever makes or question he asks will surely be bullshit or "trash?"
Is the Derrida quote mean't to be used a certain dismiss more "dominant" or mainstream forms of media distribution and assert they are always problematic?

Oh no, Trump discussion broke out at work.
I don't get Political discussions, you can have a fair, rational, compromising world view and still have it picked apart. With the amount of Salt that gets poured into everything, Nihilism isn't that bad of an idea.
I know that I don't chime into this thread or anything but yeah I want to slightly decompress.

But that raises a very valid question: is there a dominant discourse in America anymore?

Look at this fucking SJW. He' such an SJW he wrote a book on being an SJW. Dude is dressed like he's about drop the most obscure vaporwave cassette of the week.
Everybody thinks they're being logical, or at least selling a logical product. Not trying to be a dick or change your opinion, I just see Bill and some angry tumblr teen as two sides of the same cultural phenomenon, I guess? I dunno. Just look at that fucking creep. That dude dragged his ex-wife down a staircase by her throat and people look to him as some sort of pillar of morality. It's downright illogical.
