Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Outside of the Ampeg SVT, and Hiwatt 400 I dont know any majorly known amps that use the setup. I am using something more similar to the SVT with a ECC99 doing the coupling where as the SVT had a 12bh7 and Hiwatt had a 12ax7. In a normal AB1 amp like most amps out there eventually as you get the signal swing into the output tubes large enough it will result in farty blocking distortion.
You amp also has the Williamson phase inverter, which is a very old design based on the cathodyne that is also used in the Ampeg SVT. It is supposed to be the ideal phase inverter, with the cathodyne part providing near perfect balance, and the additional driver stage increase the total swing into the ECC99 coupler.
TLDR.
Moar power = good.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I would not recommend using Williamson again tho. I didnt have problems with it but it often is a bitch to get the NFB right as their are 2 major phase inversions in the NFB loop. Tricky to get it to avoid either LFO or PO

I hate you thoroughly. I'm looking for a 2x15, but they're rare as shit (earlier when I said I've never seen a bassist with more than one speaker? I wasn't joking)

They aren't "easy" to find over here either unless your looking for an old bass cab or PA cab. Wow is it just really small bar circuit over there and no clubs or something?

I just live in a place with a very lacking music scene. There are like 5 clubs in the 3 whole surrounding counties that put on proper gigs but they only put on hardcore bands from a very cliquey scene, and all of the pubs/bars only put on blues bands.
I genuinely own one of the loudest rigs for about 100 miles, simply because no one else actually devotes themselves seriously to having good gear. It's awful, watching death metal and hardcore bands go up with 20 watt Marshall MG combos, and kids bopping around like it sounds good, because it DOESN'T. We're so cut off from anything REAL that no one seems to notice and THIS is why I can never start a real band and why my dreams are dying more each day.
