Just got back from seeing Dan Deacon and that shit was cray. I was up against the speakers the whole time (my left ear is still buzzing) and, if we weren't doing some activity that Dan arranged, we were moshing less than a foot from him.
Then I came home to an email from lastgasp that my Lluna is on it's way.

I just came back from one of my night time thinkin' walks.
Brought a notebook and vigorously wrote anything that seemed important.
I'm trying to be the kind of person that has their life in order.
Also, I just farted and it smelled an awful lot like skunky weed. I just wanted to share that, because it was really weird.

OMG DAN DEACON SHOWS ARE LIKE MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD!!!!!! F'REALZ I WANT TO SEE HIM AGAIN (FOR THE THIRD TIME) SOOOOOOO BAAAAAAD.
I used to have an awesome smoke spot in Minneapolis. It was behind the dorm where I lived just on top of a hill that you could see all of downtown across the river. We used to call it "Magic Spot" because cool stuff always happened when we went there (besides getting high, that's cool too). The first time was in the middle of the day. My buddy and I went out there, smoked, and as we were walking out of the trees to the parking lot, some guy shouted from his car "Hey you guys!"
We were totally terrified. Then he looked at us, smiled, and said "You wanna smoke a bowl?"

I grew up out in the middle of nowhere, and our magic smoking spot was at Lownsberry Road. Basically it was a small intersection of 3 dirt roads surrounded by fields -- leaving us with a 360 view of the horizon, trees, clouds, and/or stars.
I was just back there last weekend and drove by it for the first time in so many years. It made me want to get high again...

i recorded a twenty-eight minute loop on the computer. it's noisier than i'd prefer, which is an accurate reflection of the amp and setup; i think that to get a better signal-to-noise ratio i'm going to have to crank it up to 5 or 6...sorry, neighbors! as you might guess at 28:00, it's a little too discursive to post, though it has its moments. i spent about three minutes there in the middle learning how to make the guitar sound like a shortwave radio by running it through three fuzzes and the envelope divider with the sweep set down and everything else turned all the way up into the flanger...apparently the flanger is really important for the static effect. i used the dual loopers to get different phrase lengths going for the Steve Reich effect, which is one of my favorite loopy things. i'm really in love with triggering the EF with pulses from the delay and/or trem. when you get three or four layers of that going it has this wonderful aquatic effect like everything's happening deep in an aquarium. i want to do this with drum tracks.

Re: the happiness, excitement, and general contentedness thr
Owning a guitar has inspired me to enter into conversations with a friend who is the main creative entity of a metal-ish band called Dracula. I've never played guitar in a band before. Always bass.
They had a second guitarist (I hesitate to call him a lead guitarist, but he added a lot of melodic and harmonic elements as well as noise and shit) who departed. The second guitarist is actually one of my friends and he moved to Arizona,...so there has been a void in that band (which is one of the best Angry music acts in Spokane and very under-recognized) for some time. I need to get some chops,...learn some parts,...basically work hard to get up to speed, which I'm not worried about.
I also need to get my guitar up to snuff and prep it to be downtuned to some esoteric tuning and resolve some of the issues I've been wanting to take care of since I bought the guitar in December (pup selector switch is garbage,...needs to be shielded and rewired as well as tone pot values switched out).
The Dracula guy seem pretty excited at the idea of having me on board. He essentially told me I'd fit in perfectly...and my presence would facilitate the playing of shows and motivate him to finish up recordings and start on new material. That feels good to be known that I'm taken seriously as a musician and that I'm not just some bass player for a shitty improvisation noise art band (I say shitty but I think it's great).
They actually remind me more of proggy Pelican (I love Pelican) more than anything else. I can't really stand all the metal subgenres so it's hard for me to describe and they really don't have any material released,...but it's good music.
I'm excited about the prospect,...the only issue is I work evenings,....so it's going to be tough to find time for two bands and family. I figured I'd at least get the ball rolling on conversations then worry about scheduling when we get to that bridge. I can always learn on my own too.

I got up at 5:30am and we set up with a generator behind the Capital while the 35th Annual Capital 10k passed by... I did sound for Sam Pace and the Guilded... Here is the guitarist Sam Pace and if you look over is arm I am sitting on the curb... Obscured as usual... It was MEGA FUN for a Sunday Morning...

My friend is pretty jazzed on the idea, and I have a pretty good relationship with the rest of the band. Mecha Shiva has played a number of shows with Dracula and they put on a killer show,...so I'm stoked that the main guy wants me involved.
I got my work cut out for me,...but I think it will be good for my progression as musician,...being in a more structured environment.

Funny. I'm actually slowly moving more and more to bass. It just feels right

I've been using an octave up on a bass
I'm totally jealous of your pedalboard, by the way. I wish I had a loop station and a fifth of the cool shit you do.

I'm not giving up on bass playing. I'll still be doing Mecha Shiva,...I just really want to explore playing guitar in a band setting.

i don't have a loop station...i have a Flashback and a used Head Rush with a Ernie Ball stereo volume/pan pedal on one end and a A/B/Y on the other
and i'm perversely proud of the fact that everything on the boards other than the PolyTune, Phantom Ring, Hi Five, Algal Bloom (which i just tried to call the Algal Boom
), Ghost Echo, Flashback, and ABY are used.
