so, stain, seal, then splatter paint on that?

my thoughts precisely, but I'm thinking more undersea topo mebbe deep teal with maybe some darker color in the channels. but then again, want to emphasize contrast, so maybe silver in the channels.... not sure how easy that would be to do. found this stuff:
