I hope the soundtrack is as good as the SNES ones.

$50 is a bit steep for a retro-with-modern-graphics sidescrolling platformer, but a rental for sure.

This was one of the games that made me buy my third Wii (sold the other two over the last 4 years). I played it at Best Buy yesterday... looks really great! The first level (I'm assuming it was the first level) was pretty standard, and I think it's just there as like an introduction to the controls and stuff. The volume wasn't so high, but it sounded to me like the exact same song from Level 1 of DKC on the SNES, just upgraded to Wii-standards.

I'm forcing myself to complete a few of my other games before I get DKCR, but I can't wait to play this bitch all the way through.

And I guess $50 seems pretty cheap/standard for me... you're talking to a kid who bought the original Mortal Kombat for the SNES the day it came out for $75. There wasn't even any blood. I think I was like 14.

Oh I remember my folks saving for weeks to get me mega man and castlevania as a kid...but that was space age tech back then.
I was only thinking that these days a sidescrolling platformer done in the image of the SNES era with a bit of modern flash probably cost them pennies.

Though I guess it balances out in the end...it would be lame if games with huge budgets (red dead redemption, fallout, final fantasy, halo etc.) started charging $75-85 just because they took longer to make.

I really want the new Donkey Kong! But I know I don't have time right now. :/

I heard the first few levels are standard, but that the levels get really cool...and that it's hardcore difficult!!!

Word, Tom!

I read that same thing on IGN.com's review. Perhaps we read the same article. I don't really care as long as it's fun. The stage with the big tsunami in the background looks dope, as well as all the updates to the mine-cart rides and barrel-rocket thing. I also saw a level where you're trapped inside like a giant spinning circular thing with a gap in it, so while the big ring is spinning through the stage, you have to time your jumps whilst inside it. I'm happy they actually made it pretty hard... if it turns out that way. Some of the original DKC (1&2) levels were frustratingly fun... and quite rewarding once you were finished.

Don't forget to take a break for Diddy.

OK I'm gonna buy a new Wii game tomorrow. Should I get Twilight Princess, Metroid 3, or the new Donkey Kong?
I CAN'T DECIDE.

hell yes. the latest gameply trailer they put out looks solid, crawling around in vents, fiddling with your inventory! classic DX.

Stoked for Deus Ex but Eidos has been somewhat spotty lately (and sorta always have been) so we'll see.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow:
:omg: Massive plotline developments that are a must for any castlevania fan!
Somewhat derivative gameplay, combat borrows heavily from God of War and *Shadow of the Colussus* (you heard me).
it also features a slew of very fun puzzles that remained difficult, but not mind numbingly "let me throw my controller at the wall and google that" hard.
Serious fanboy bonerage during the cutscene after the credits.

I spent 50% of my time on Deus Ex 1 looking at the inventory screen. Not kidding

Let me tell you a little something about a game that was both glorious and extremely frustrating.
A game that lasted longer in beta form than in retail.
A game that I should probably post in in the confessions thread for having bought a month's subscription.
Let me tell you about APB. Rather, let me show you my glorious North Korean freedom fighter, Pantyflash, who was trapped in a pig western city amongst the trash of the capitalist world. She had to re-educate them by means of revolver.

The game's character/car designer was FANTASTIC and you could even make your own 5-second songs that other players heard when you killed them.
Too bad it was riddled with hackers and bugs, and despite spending like $500 million or some ridiculous amount on the game, it crashed and burned within months. Fucking APB.

THAT DEPENDS.

What have you played in the past? My opinions:

1. Twilight Princess is not my favourite Zelda game. I would rank 5 or 6 other games above it. It's a Zelda game, yeah, but it offers just about nothing new. It's like a "greatest hits" kind of Zelda game. If you've liked other Zelda games, you'll enjoy playing through this... but eventually just got kind of looooooong towards the end. I played it when the Wii first came out a few years ago, and I don't really remember anything about it in great detail.

2. The Metroid Prime series is apparently one of the best FPS series ever made. I've only played Metroid Prime 1, and I loved it. I'm not huge on FPS, but MP is more of like an adventure game in first person. It's soooooooo full of detail and story... really great. I have the MP Trilogy for Wii, but I've only played through MP on it (currently going through that again before I move on to 2 and 3. Can't wait.).

3. I'm itching to get the new DKC game... just waiting until I finish some other ones. It's going to be a blast no matter what. Did you play the original DKC series?

4. Do you have Super Smash Bros. Brawl? If not, I highly recommend that. Highly.

I didn't like zelda TP...I didn't even finish it, and I'm a guy who completes EVERY game he plays. It was just mreh.

The prime series were some of the best games on the game cube, or any platform really that generation.
Not exactly a traditional metroid, but lots of fps/exploration elements. Oh and it doesn't suck like metroid other M did.

DK looks awesome, if you like donkey kong country you'll love DKCR

It's a horror survival in the most literal sense.

Amnesia's AWESOME. I sat in Ventrilo with 3 other people and we all played through our singleplayer games at the same time...

There were MANY instances of "OH SHIT DON'T GO UP THE STAIRS DON'T GO UP THE STAIRS"
"fuck...what do I do now? Someone else go up the stairs..."
"You do it, fuck you, you go up the stairs!"
And then since the game randomizes some events, 3 of us would be crying about the stairs but at the same time the one person would enter a different door in his game and whimper. It was great.

That game gave me nightmares until we beat it.
It is the best horror game out there. I love how it relies heavily on atmosphere and there are only a couple jump-scares. You don't open doors and see the monster pop out. What I'm saying is that you're afraid when there's nothing there for...even an hour sometimes.
