I'd go with the bigger one and buffer options.
Only thing that I 'd like to ask is, since I don't know how you mounth the jacks, is there a way to put more space between the 2 inputs and the 2 outputs? incase one needs to use right angles GeorgeL's or Lava's ? I mean in the middle, between the left input and the right output. God sometimes I hate english!

I'm sure ryan will have it so you can even use pancake jacks.

But will the bigger box make me pancakes?

I don't think you'll have trouble with the jacks, or at least with lavas. The plugs are pretty slim.

Hey guys, new to the site. I only joined so i can keep up on RRR developments. anyways, been reading this thread and I know everyone is being cool about the bix box but man, if you can get it to work in the smaller box, it's going to do a lot better. obvious point maybe.

i love my RRR, and am looking forward to the new pedal.

and just wondering, is this new model gonna have a spring setting too? i think i read somewhere that it will?

for the next, next RRR i would love to see some spx90 flavored reverse reverb! anyone else? :omg:

Ok gents, let's see here..

Molo, the jacks have to be really close like that on both box layouts I'm afraid... in the small box they just physically have to fit that close to fit at all and on the big box they have to fit close like that so I can keep them away from the digital section and the oscillators and also so I can have as much pcb space as possible. When you see the pcb prototypes you'll understand the compromises, there's nearly 200 components to fit on the boards and with a mixed analog and digital pcb the layout is crucial for noise and high speed performance and even headroom can be affected.

I'm still undecided and working on both layouts. The small box can't have the buffered bypass option, there's just no room for it at all and that's even if the switch was on the control panel and not on the pcb. I don't want to make the option a main panel control though, mainly because I'm making it work with two toggle switches so you can choose buffered bypass or true bypass for either the left or right channel or both. Two toggle switches on the main panel that are just for a bypass option doesn't seem right to me, those suckers should be in the box.

This whole buffered bypass option is still in the idea phase too, I haven't had a chance to really test it out yet. The way I'd like it to work is of course so that it would have reverb trails, but I don't want to change the audio section just to accommodate this bypass idea... so if it doesn't work into the circuit easily and elegantly I'm not going to spend much time worrying about it. I do wonder though if it's a strong enough feature to make the big box worth it...

Welcome to the forum, Echo Ranch!

I'm not sure if the box size is so obvious a choice... I was thinking it was, I was thinking all the guys on here would prefer the small box, but they proved me wrong! Personally, I'd probably prefer the small box as I just get a kick out of that challenge, but ultimately I'm going to use the layout that sounds the best. There's really difficult noise considerations to make on a pedal like this, more so than on the old version or the miniberators as the bigberator has a feature or two that really complicate the noise situation (the decay control, the modulation). Plus, remember a 1790 is only about 30% wider than the 1590BB, it's not dramatically bigger or taller, just a nice little bit wider.

Not to sound cranky, but for the millionth time there won't be (and there never will be) any new sounds added to the RRR. It will always have the exact same 9 sounds, I have no way to change them or add to them without completely reprogramming these Wavefront chips from scratch with custom code and that's not going to happen. Maybe one day I'll have the time and training to work on a custom code reverb pedal but that is waaaay down the road.

what's exciting about these BBBs (Big Bad Breverberators) is that ryans gonna give away the prototypes! ;)

so lets get him to build as many as possible.

Haha, yeah Kev, I could see that happening... but man, it's gonna have to be one heckuva contest! *smile* I predict those bigberator protos to take a full day to solder by hand.... I can't wait though, what a fun day!

hey ryan

thanks for the reply. and sorry for the NOOB question. it must have been something i read somewhere of ill repute.

i think it's great that you are so open and available with/about your pedals to the community here. rock on and good luck with the protos.

Gotcha on the jack issues, Ryan! I feel you. Keep up the good work, it's gonna be awesome! :omg:

If there is ever gonna be a bypass oprion it's gotta be inside for sure, like in every pedal. :thumb:

do you consider "buffer option" & "trails option" to be the same thing?

cause i'd like trails option on the outside

Ryan,

Have you thought about adding A/B/BOTH stomp switches to the Big Stereo RRR? I might not be the typical "stereo" user but I do run dual vintage amps for completely different tones which means I play in three modes: Mono A, Mono B, and Stereo. Your RRR sounds so good that I rarely Bypass but I do use A/B switching a lot. It seems like running reverb at the end of the signal chain is common so RRR + A/B switching could be a natural combo for the larger pedal footprint.

Good Luck with your boards!!!
