I like where this is going...

And all I have to say about solid state amps is JC120. :hello:

I was thinking the same thing

This, plus, bassists use solid state amps all the time, and they manage to get some decent sounds :whateva:

The Lab Series amps sound great also.

There are decent sounds and then there is great tone.

Tubes breath, sag, compress and respond to every nuance of your playing style.
A SS amp just makes it louder with tone shaping.

Modeling amps “taste just like chicken if you have never eaten chicken”.

Playing a tube amp pushed just below the point of breakup and feeling as well as hearing what happens when you step on a fuzz, od or distortion pedal is a thrill.

I kind of believe it’s a lot like being given a chance to drive at Le Mans and a choice between a Ferrari and a Prius. Both will get you around the track but the Ferrari will make you wet your pants and ask for more.

Oh the worst amp I ever played through was a SS bass amp with aluminum coned speakers. It had all the tone quality of a garbage can.

i was given a marshall valvestate combo as a loaner while my original amp was getting fixed. i hated that piece of shit so much, everything was awful on that thing. i can't see how chuck schuldiner tolerated them, i couldn't even get a good death tone. i played a smokey amp instead until i could get my original amp back.

I really really dislike the hartke aluminium coned speakers, dry brittle trebley nastiness.

I had a 1x15 Hartke bass cab that my wife bought me because she thought it looked cool. I wouldn't try to get rid of it, but she did let me swap the speaker out. I'm running a Peavey Black Widow in there now and it can rattle the fillings in your teeth. :omg:

I love my Hartke 2x10... but then, I'm usually playing more for the trebulz these days anyhow...
