That's a good one, but it's more a Marshall in a box and doesn't create the sound that Eivind is initally striving for.

I could probably give/sell cheap my boneshaker to you eivind. It's really all-gain though, and all EQ. Maybe it is a bit much for what you are looking for?Gone Fission wrote:If you like the 250 flavor, maybe see if you can find a cheap DOD Boneshaker. The eq flexibility (and that the eq can get a bit dirty) makes it hard to nail down—it doesn’t just have one sound. But this also makes it easier to fit in a rig.

Yeah, from the fast clip I watched it seemed a bit ott for my needs, but I do appreciate the sentiment!
@Syl: Mid-Fi is notoriously hard to find in Europe as he doesn't export here, but thanks for the tip!
Also, feel free to discuss other overdrive related stuff in here.
Also also, the Devi thread is making me want to say fuck it and just get another Bit again instead.

The boneshaker has a surprising modest amount of gain imo. Don't habve mine anymore, and I didn't have any humbucker guitars back when I had the boneshaker. But yeah, I guess I got mislead by a couple of doom inspired demos and reviews.
OD-3, BD-2, Boneshaker, Gunslinger, OCD,...they'll all do the job I guess. Not much else to add, except maybe the Vexter Distortron. Doesn't cut any bass. Don't worry about the Marshall JTM reference you read everywhere. I actually have no idea what defines the difference between a "miab" type drive and another medium gain overdrives, it's mostly marketing bullshit imo. Anyway, Distortrons can be found for less than half the price of a Double Rock.

Maxon ROD-881 isn't bad at all. The noise gate is even useful. Really enjoy just playing with that pedal. I felt both settings are really good. The overdrive side had more clarity than I was expecting (and was much better than a tube screamer to me).
I like original amptweaker stuff. Like Tight Drive maybe. The bonus of the effects loops and sidetrack are really nice. Can be found cheapish sometimes. I like my tight rock and tight fuzz. Might be too much to the Marshall side though. I do like the guv'nor too in the Ampeg Gemini but not an overdrive. There was one that reminded me of these pedals South Beach Imagine or something that was more to the higher gain of overdrive, but it had an ok eq (and, honestly, felt like a clone of the guv'nor family).
Maxon OD-820 I have heard good things about. I like my DS-830, but probably a little too much like a DS-1 with chords.
The Ibanez nu-tube screamer with the korg nu-tube sounded better to me than the Ibanez tube screamer I had.
Did not like the Boss SD-1 at all...way too mids-focused to me (but I turn treble to 10 and bass to 0 on everything starting and then roll back treble).
FATRAT is also dang good compared to the normal and turbo rat. I love rats with the right amp (like my ampeg. Not so great with the fender cyber twin).
I built a clone of the EHX Ge Overdrive which is nice and fuzzy and warm, but haven't played it in a while. It stacks nice though.

Re: Ugh, what's a good, cheap overdrive pedal?
If you want a gentle to medium overdrive with a ton of tonal control then the Caline CP18 Orange burst is really good - it can do loud clean boost (26dB!) and then overdrive on top and has a bass and treble control, and is stupidly cheap. It's a clone of the Xotic BB Preamp pedal. It doesn't do anything weird, but I used it an awful lot until I built myself a different boost pedal that could go louder.
