Ghost Hip can demo my wares any day

Has anybody mentioned Ed? His demos and talky vids are great imo. Probably the guy that has sold me the most fuzzes through a demo. Maybe Joe Gore but idk if he reviews stuff he hasn't made.

I will say the world of YouTuber demo makers is interesting from the perspective of someone looking to demo their wares. Pricing does not seem to be tied to audience size or skill...mostly just the ego of the YouTuber. *Most* of the people I spoke with were cool as heck, and obviously, the ones who you'll see demos by were reasonable and nice and cool and all that. But man...some folks expected a heck of a lot of money for a smaller reach than others who just wanted a free pedal. Weird world.

Side note: it really isn't that hard to make most ODs/Distortions/Fuzzes sound similar. They all overlap in sounds/settings, especially if you hit them really hard or really lightly. Where they differ is in their flexibility (frequency-wise and/or range of 'hair') and their feel (compression envelope, gating, sustain, etc). Both of those things are hard to show in demos. You kinda just have to play them...

I think this highlights the modern moment. The decentralization of internet distribution
means that you are the "brand" that you "brand" yourself with and often it is just jellybeans
in a jar that have different colors but all turn out to taste the same because they are pebbles.

The cost of a pedal isn't dependent upon the amount of money you make with it, nor the number
of "views" and "likes" you get after purchasing it, but "demo-ers" seem to sell their wares based
on this notion because they are not demonstrating, they are advertising.

So... I would agree with others who have complained about the carpet-bombing approach.
If these channels are supposed to be "lifestyle arbiters", then flooding the zone sort of thwarts
that approach.

The point about drive pedals all sounding similar points out another thing. One approach is
the clinical/technical where the person tells/shows what amp/guitar is used and what pickups
to give an indication of what the pedal itself does in that circumstance. The other approach
is to create a feeling in a video about what the pedal or pedalmaker is about. But if a "demo"
sounds the same by a certain person, a potential customer of the pedalmaker is learning less
about the pedal and more about the demo-er. Outside of "tastemaker endorsement" style
"influencing".

Each stage and level of this requires decision-making on your part that will indicate to
potential customers who you are and what you're about.

yes. to me R.J. Ranquillo makes every guitar he plays sound more or less the same. after seeing three of his videos i said "nah." anyone who makes an Eastwood with 'buckers and a Jazzmaster sound similar is totally useless to me, as are guitar demos where the dude's playing through distortion or a Jacked Stack for the entire video. i'm not going to be using your setup, mate, and i need a sorta clean tone cos i know what my setup will do with the regular tones.

Joe Gore has reviewed so many pedals in print for Premier Guitar that I can't even imagine him doing a video for anything he doesn't think is remotely interesting (let alone for a fee), but I do wish other demo ppl would take a page from his excellent video stylings (they will not).

Yeah, these are both really great. It's always so cool to hear what folks do with a circuit I spent weeks/months pulling my hair out designing. I love to hear stuff I've made used to make music...that's the whole point after all.

I was seriously blown away by Megan's melodies and use of texture. She's has such a great musical mind.

There will be more demos coming out in the next few weeks months. I can't wait to hear them

i had never heard her before...it's not like i have an encyclopedic knowledge of every demo person out there. i like her a lot...her aesthetic is similar to mine. i watched her 5 Favorite Pedals of 2020" video and could use like 4 of them. i wish i'd realized that i could have got a lot of what i wanted for lo-fi modulation from the Fairfield Shallow Water, because i wouldn't have bought the ROYGBIV which now appears to be defective. can't resell it cos that would be wrong, can't fix it cos i don't know how, and JPTR FX didn't respond to my e-mail. guess i'll try them again. i should know better by now than to order stuff from manufacturers whose stuff i don't know. it feels like the German version of Death By Audio: great ideas, fantastic graphic design, execution:?

Megan's demo is cool, but I think the sound has a lot of compression, doesn't it? It was quite uneasy for my ears through my good quality PC speakers. But her way of demonstrating this pedal is really nice.
