What a brilliant, brilliant author. What a fucking epic. What. A. Fucking. Epic. His asides and flavor descriptions have detail that could become novels on their own.
One section of the core class "Philosophical Perspectives On The Humanities" at the U of Chicago (my alma mater) threw Book of the New Sun on their reading list. I was pleased. Personally, I think it's the sort of work that, like the Illiad or Ulysses, could stand for a whole course devoted to unpacking it and reading relevant philosophical and historical texts. One day that shit's going to be canonized proper, mark my words.
