I'm not sure. I haven't spent much time with a BOSS BD-2 when we had it in the music shop, but I recall it sounding different. And my Marshall Bluesbreaker II sounds different as well. Maybe it's their own take on a tube amp overdrive. My brother loved it so much that he bought this pedal off from me.
