2) Desk: The antique wood thing I use now has no leg room since buying a subwoofer for my monitors. It wasn't comfortable anyway.

3) Maybe a 2nd modular case: Focused on percussion and effects. But I am keeping the GAS away by committing to what I have already. Only will happen if three conditions are met:
A) achieve Jedi Master status with my current modules, fully understand all their capabilities and uses, RTFM, watch videos.
B) Release another solo album with modular gear as the focus. For me. Not that anyone ever listens to what I make. Nor should they.
C) Proper funding is secured from selling my EGC bass VI and other gear.

4) Shure SM-57: Need a 2nd mic for better stereo recordings of two amps.

5) Maybe a video camera: To make videos of gear shit. Duh. Might have to upgrade my laptop too.

If you like the Shure SM57 you'll love the Beyerdynamic M201

Also, tell me more about that EGC bass VI :duck:
I can't find it in me to buy a $100 mic for future recording right now but I am sure the Beyerdynamic is better. Thanks for the suggestion though.

After three years of really aggressively building my gear collection, I'm finally sick of doing so. I'm working on scaling back the board (went from 20 pedals down to 7 and now seem to be balancing out around 14) and focusing on a more "guitar-forward" (as opposed to "texture-forward") approach. Trying to motivate to sell a couple guitars and my Ampeg Gemini in favor of (probably) an Artist. But other than a new amp and maybe a Reface CS, there isn't a whole lot I want. Which is good because I'm pretty broke and am likely to remain so for awhile.

- spend time getting to know some of the gear that I don't know too well

- limit the number of new to me pedals that I bring in (maybe no more than 1 per month of some sort of budget?)

- Develop an online presence for my music (as in organize it and just make it available/linkable)

- Create an album of already written music (see "organize and make available")

- Create an album of newly written music (see "organize and make available")

- Improve my ability to perform solo sets of 45-60 contiguous mins; record some of these (for release?)

- Not get into eurorack

- maybe try building a pedal?

- maybe try playing with video / editing a bit?

Every one should make fun of me because I say this every year and NEVER do it. 2021 is no gear.
Oh... I literally did NONE of my 2020 goals. Not a single one of them. Those were based more on specializing in midi and apps so I can renew those for 2021.

In short:
1. No new gear. 2021 is the year of the goose being cooked.
2. Renew 2020 goals that involve #1.

How hopeful am I of this? Not really... it is what it is. Just know I had/have the best intentions. I have a higher chance of sticking my finger in my urethra than I do of accomplishing these goals.

I also plan to beat off A LOT!!!! No delusions about making music... making stupid noises is the hobby for me now. So jerking it and jerking sounds. Motto 2021. Pulling off sounds... and pulling myself off
:cucumber emoji:
:eggplant emoji:

EDIT: If 2020 was the year of the classic zag. 2021 is the year of the classic tug.

A better amp.
And a p/up and wiring upgrade for my SG, which I keep putting off because I want to wire it myself but have to get a soldering iron.
And a Boss RE-20. I keep coming back around to wanting one. Because, Wata. And Slowdive.

I think this next year is the year that I really slow down when it comes to pedals. I did a lot better this year and see no real plans to add anything other than a Volante. I have to pay off my DNG and hope to pick up an analog4 but those are the only gear purchases I have next year. We'll see though......haha

this year's main goal is to get my MacBook Pro fixed and have Logic Pro installed...[edit]
summary: home recording, short-scale bass, other stuff as affordable/available, prioritized to the needs of recording projects i.e. if i buy a guitar, i need for it to be more essential than recreational.
i've been doing a lot of reflecting in the last few weeks, having driven myself into repetitive psychological collapse (three breakdowns in six weeks) partially due to my obsessive guitar tweaking and obsessing over perfecting things which don't exist outside my brain. i think i've been going about this all wrong. rather than obsessing over trying to create perfect projects, it would be far better for me at this time to do less conceptual work and try to enjoy music more. i'm going to stop doing projects at home once the Gretsch with FilterTrons is finished unless i find some compelling need/problem, and will let that whole part of my world rest till i actually need to deal with it.

i've decided to get the Fender Lead II i've talked about, because it's an instrument which doesn't offer most of the simple, familiar things that sometimes make me into a walking cliche. i want an instrument that doesn't want to be nice, pretty-sounding, consonant, or (least of all) "bluesy"; i want an instrument that will make me do different things, even if that only means substituting Roger Miller of Burma and Andy Gill of Go4 for Neil Young and Jerry Garcia. i'll do this next week when my bonus check arrives. out with the twang, in with the clang.

other than that, i'm thinking about buying a pair of old Sound City/Fane 12s for $200 on Reverb and putting them in a 2x12. i think they might be the perfect medium between JBLs and Celestions i've been wishing for. i'm also going to eschew new pedals unless something unmissable blows by, other than getting a Shin-Ei Companion clone so i can make big ugly JAMC noises. i need to find some way to make being a guitarist work for me, rather than playing being work for me. the computer-repair-and-software thing is still happening, though. i have to get something in the can to justify my existence before i die. i also still need a fretted short-scale bass. at the moment i'm looking at the Luna Tattoo, which is a $200 short-scale P-Bass with a mahogany body that i suspect would give me that je ne sais quoi that will let my bass parts step out a bit in the mix. how good does it need to be for only $200, really? and as ever, i enjoy the idea of playing a "girl's bass" because genderfuck.

so we'll see where i am after a couple of months and a variety of new mental health care providers/modalities. maybe my mind will change again. maybe i'll get on the high road to the mountaintops. how the fuck would i know? but i think i'm having a moment of clarity.

When it comes to pedals I don't think I want anything other than another Count To 5 (I've bought two new ones and one s/h and currently have none).
The CT5 is somewhere between Canada and here and I've sold (I think) five pedals that weren't being used already.

So at this rate, unless something is released that I just have to try, I'm not going to buy anything in 2021.

This makes me both happy and sad, so maybe I'll have to buy a new guitar, or a second Katana combo so I can record in stereo.

1. Get rack for excess pedals. Make cables.
2. Rearrange main board - introducing new pedals I need to make space for.
3. Maybe complete CBA collection (minus automatones). Only have 2 left so should be doable hopefully unless they do a billion releases this year.
4. Replace midi controllers with PirateMIDI, fixing numerous issues - namely, lack of proper CC control.
5. Finally receive Space Case?
6. Get another power supply to reduce dependance on batteries.
7. Switchblade GL for rack and/or TB3 interface. (if I can afford either)
8. CV Splitter + sort out whatever's wrong with EXP splitter.

1. Finish up this version (this is V1) of my board. Need to add wah, phaser, and delay and its done for awhile. Other than picking up a new main fuzz beside my Russian RI.

Oh, and actually find a distortion I can get along with, before I just find a used Rat. Though I'm really not entirely sure what it is I'm looking for, I like the Rat, but feel like I may be better with something else idk. I only use distortion maybe 5% of the time if that so it's not really all that necessary. The Dynamic I have is just eh for me.

2. Actually make a board for above mentioned "pedalboard".

3. Score a good priced CR120 head and at least a good 2x12 cab.

4. Find a nice Agile LP to put together specifically for a sludge/psychedelic thing I'm playing around with. Tunes in C & B Std, thinking about a Air Norton and Super D combo. Undecided, its some time before that.

I've been envisioning something similar. Or a CR120 combo.
Or a CR60.
