Yeah chank I think that is rational GAS. Mostly.

I love the Superego, but couldn't get past how harsh and high-frequency-focused it is. Have you found that or is that just me?

I have 3 out of 4 Big Muff reissues (missing the Rams Head). Do I need it? maybe not. But this is the irrational thread.
I really like the Flatiron Fuzz, it's apparently a Rat variant (?) It just sounds good to me without any fuss. Not the same as my micro sized Donner Rat copy, it's better somehow.

I feel like EHX stuff is almost sick, but they cheap out on pots and switches so much that I steer away from their stuff these days. I've gone from having 4 EHX pedals on my board to none after my big box muff and memory toy shat out. I would gladly pay $10 more per pedal if they used premium components that I wouldn't have to worry about, but their stuff just feels cheap and I've not had good luck with them.

Pretty odd that Walter Becker of all people managed to bump up the price of a pedal. When has HE ever had a killer tone, it seems it's always other guys.
"Aja." Becker plays the second part of the solo (Denny Dias is the first part), apparently on a Jazzmaster, and his tone is fucking gorgeous.

Didn't know that. Always thought it was Denny all the way just because the first part is his trademark bebop shred thing. Some tasty doubling effect on that one that I've never noticed. Still not anything that would make me run out and get a lb2ube. I really only care for Skunk's guitar playing in Steely Dan even if I love the band way to much it is more about the song as an entity
BTW has anybody here run their used hog into a big muff?

you can tell because Walter bends notes which Dias did not, as he himself noted in Guitar Player back in the 70s.
i think that the attraction to the pre-amp is that Becker generally plugged straight into the desk.

I see, still don't get it. Mostly as a conceptual thing. Like I would rather use apedal like that to drive an amp or have a booster to drive it. Guitarists are kinda odd in that sense though. If I wanted to sound like that I would just use a transistor bass amp.

i just discovered the EH Attack Decay backwards-reverb thingy. it seems really cool, but that weird sort of glossy graininess so typical of their processors is apparent and the controls are particularly random, not in a good way.

Superego has been a staple for me for several years and I do occasionally wonder about upgrading.
I've had both and the + doesn't measure up to the original I had volume and trigger issues when solely using the straight up effect and mixed results with the built in effects, I sold it and went back to the OG one and was much happier my opinion they concentrated on all the bells and whistles and not the original effect

Interesting. I had problems with triggering the OG in some parts of the fretboard and the + solved that problem for me. That's only the reason I have the + since the effects are kind of useless to me
I never had trigger issues on either but the + I had was much quieter than the original. The effected signal on the original could boost louder than the dry but, on the +, it could never get even as loud as the dry.

Now that you say that, I'm now realizing the same thing. I've been wishing I could have a volume boost, it's getting lost.
Now I'm really wondering if I just want to go back to the original. The triggering issues weren't that severe, just a few places here and there. It's not like the Microcosm which I can't dump fast enough.

I tried one for a little bit, with the intention of using it as an envelope manipulator, and I didn't care for it. It seemed like it was useful for one sound which is that backwardy fuzzy thing like on Revolver, and that's it. My impression at least. Didn't last long

I don't like wah, and the fuzz doesn't seem to be anything special, but there's something about that Cockfight that intrigues me.
