For liquid watercolour, I've been using house brand bottles from Michael's because they're cheap, and I have no complaints. I've yet to find a set of oil dyes that didn't have a couple problem colours. I've used grenadine for a nice red. Carbonated water can be interesting when it fizzes, but the effect is short lived.

Dude of reverb selling the Erogenous Tones Structure... I'm the dude who made the first off and then you lowered your asking price. If u see this, PM me and and we can circumnavigate your reverb fees.

LOL I miss Craigslist missed connections (I might be a thing still but I still miss it).

@manymanyhaha - I am a neophyte at this myself. The picture you quoted is the new stand alone LZX video synth. LZX makes Euro-rack video synth modules. This is their third stand alone box (the second one being the Vidiot which... for myself and a lot of people on ILF... was the gateway drug to video synthesis... some people had eurorack modules before... I personally did not).

This one is exciting because it covers the territory of a couple modules. I am personally excited because I wanted to pair the module Navigator with my vidiot... and this encompasses that and more... much more!

I can walk you threw more but essentially, this is loaded with a lot of ins and outs of multiple video formats. It has a ton of functionality with keying and colorizing (in fact, it looks like it can do a fair amount of what the vidiot can do! This makes sense as Vidiot is discontinued and this is replacing it... again... among other things).

I'm posting the 'nut shell' version. I have so much more to learn myself. This unit comes in it's own enclosure BUT it's essentially a small eurorack case, so if you already had a system with space, you could just mount this (as opposed to the enclosure of the vidiot, which would take a little more time).

If you want to know more go to the video synthesis section of muffwiggler. LZX also has their own forums but I am a luddite and using a very dated version of chrome... on a very dated computer. I personally planning on posting more here from what I learn there... because I like it here.

Think of me and this information like... a weird older cousin who saw boobs once.

"LZX 3rd Generation: 2020 and beyond

Howdy!

I’ve been meaning to make this post in the wake of our Halloween announcement, in which I explain our direction moving forward into 2020 with current, past and future development. Please feel free to ask any questions in this thread.

LZX is entering a third era of development. In each generation we have experimented a lot: Visionary, Expedition and Orion series are all documentations of journeys through a lot of analogue processing territory and instrumentation concepts. This generation is less about experiments and more about encapsulating our work in a way that is designed for continuous production and focused on the community’s needs. The best LZX yet.
Instruments are getting bigger and EuroRackable with Automata series! Any of them can be perfect entry points or system cores, or an expanding modular system all their own. New EuroRack Modules are getting simpler and more affordable, through a rebirth of our Visionary series.
We’re not leaving any work behind! Where products have been discontinued, it is because direct functional replacements are planned or revisions to existing modules are planned.
The projects we’ve outlined to take us into 2020 and beyond are a direct result of listening to you all, and trying to take all voices into account.
In general, we’re narrowing down our product list. We can’t keep up with demand with our cashflow spit across so many production projects. That does not mean we don’t want to offer our full catalog or an expansive catalog, just that we need to focus on matching demand for the core products for a while and continue to stabilize our production flow.
We’re trying not to jump too far ahead. This is the direction, but we’d like to take it in phases. We’ll be listening to you actively at each phase.
So here’s the shape of things! Two new series we’re going to focus on: one for modules, one for instruments. Automata series is where most of our more advanced analogue work will evolve, as full instruments and voice modules. Visionary Series Mk2 will be core EuroRack modules with DIY options: basic and classic. Both series will be short lists, we plan to cover a lot of territory in a few products.

LZX Automata Series (Gen3)

Chromagnon, XY Video Instrument, March 20th 2020.
RGB Video Instrument.*
Texture Video Instrument.*
LZX Visionary Series II (Gen3)

DC Distro, 4HP EuroRack Module, Q1 2020

Sync Distro, 8HP EuroRack Module, Q1 2020 (converts to and from RCA/14 pin sync, active buffered mults to solve interfacing issues with various systems or standards)

Dual Video Waveform Generator, EuroRack Module, Q3 2020.

Triple Fader/Key Generator Mk2, EuroRack Module, Q3 2020.

Video Blending Matrix Mk2, EuroRack Module, Q3 2020.

This list may expand by 2-3 more and include some kind of utility encoder/syncgen for complete DIY systems.
All Mk2 Visionary modules are planned for DIY and and production assembled variants.

There will also be a Sampler/Video Mixer Instrument. It’s unclear whether it will be an Automata series or Orion series device (probably the Orion capstone.)

DISCONTINUED
Vidiot (replaced by Chromagnon)
Polar Fringe (replaced by Chromagnon)
Visual Cortex (replaced by Chromagnon, and other future Automata instruments)
Navigator (replaced by Chromagnon)
Shapechanger (replaced by Chromagnon, and other future Automata instruments)
Cyclops (replaced by Chromagnon)
Marble Index (replaced by future Automata RGB instrument)
Prismatic Ray (replaced by Diver, Visionary Mk2 Dual Osc and Chromagnon)
Color Chords (replaced by future Automata RGB instrument, Visionary Mk2 Blending Matrix)
War of the Ants (replaced by future Automata Texture instrument)
Cadet series (we’ll keep selling until the end of the year, but these will be replaced entirely by diy variants of Visionary Mk2.)
Liquid TV (no direct replacement planned)

ACTIVE/RETAINER STATUS (we’ll keep making these)
All Orion modules
Topogram
Curtain
Mapper
Castle series PCBs
Arch
Bridge
Passage
Doorway
Staircase
Sensory Translator
Pendulum

Hopefully this overall road map will give everyone some context and answers. Looking forward to the discussion.

What I am especially excited for is those 25 pin connectors. They are for interfacing with ILDA (International Laser Display Association) lasers.
Basically... this is for incels like me who hate money and need another stupid hobby

Side Note on Chromagnon... I could be wrong but I don't think these will be limited... sure you can pre-order at $799 + tax (state/country dependent). But if (when rather, and IF the same price) they retail at CONTROL or Perfect Circuit, you can get one for 10% off minimum.

I feel like such a fucktard. Actually bought(and still have) one of the first vidiots, it was an impulse buy, having the desire to create atmosphere while I compose and improv in my little playroom/"studio". I havent gotten around to hooking it up and it has been what, a couple years? I'm just always away from home, grrr

I'm going to have to find somebtimebto start experimenting with this. Have played around a bit with Resolume while sitting in hotel rooms, like it but most of the effects are too over the top for my taste. Too obvious. Cheesy almost. I want to create abstraction, waves of beauty that pulse and wash over, not make you go "neat"

Thanks for the info! Wish I had something to contribute

And you will have something to contribute! Take video of your abstractions on a phone and post them to youtube. You can set the link to private if you only want the fuzz bros to look!
I'm new to this too! This is a super archaic "art" (bleh! :barf: ) form so it's not like we'll be breaking any new ground or finding any sort of audience. Takes a lot of pressure off!
Image

Actually I must confess... I have bought not 1 but 2 ambient VHS (video art / video loops) in my life  They're probably in my closet... behind a bunch of clothes, behind a bunch of noise tapes :idk:

Also another tip as I am learning about the world of VJ'ing (LOL, anyone remember those old MTV ads?) is you can buy up a DJ's entire stash if you're willing to buy a lot. Since it's music related some gear you get in this sale will be useful towards your audio endeavors too!

Another very messy technique that results in the unplanned/unexpected,
is to get one or two 16mm film projectors and have both of them running
at the same time. While they are running pour bleach on the film so that
you don't electrocute yourself or blow up the bulb. But what happens is
that the bleach makes the emulsion liquify and slough off the base of the
film. Which means that the 16mm filmstrip will be destroyed, but you will
make a show out of the destruction.

It makes a huge mess and smells like bleach. But the visuals will be
one of a kind.
