Absolute Destruction might be a notch filter or band pass filter ? (I have no technical knowledge). But it seems like certain frequencies get emphasized, so that filter effects sound unstable. Are you a guitar player? My suggestion may be more directed at synth people who bought an Absolute Destruction and are wondering WTF can I use this for

playing a bass/guitar hybrid. yeah, thanks for clarifying this thing, i guess i thought you meant that this DBA was itself a filter that whose feedback/noise qualities were variable dependant on what sources came before it...

...which is why i thought it might be an interesting blanket noise source for the end of my signal chain, but it is the overwhelming tone of the Thornoscillator i'm seeking, so i will go for one of those last one online sold for $400 and MASF isnt showing any sign of making more in the near future

I am not a super technical person so I will chime in in retardo terms. I do have both the 4ms Noise Swash and MASF Thornoscillator. I do not use them with a guitar but with contact mics and samples. I do not find the pedals similar at all but sure both will destroy your signal like nothing else. Noise Swash has plenty of knobs (the mini has 8 knobs and 2 switches) and at least I feel like they really do control one parameter each. Turn a knob and you get less or more of something. Thornoscillator on the other hand is more wild IMO. Signal destruction but in the best '90s japanoise way. Turn a knob and the sound goes through a range of "modes". And the knobs interact a lot so turning two is already a bumpy ride. Only 4 knobs (I have the version with graphics, the plain one has an extra switch, for gain if I remember right) but really learning how they interact and where the sweet spots are is not a 5min knob twist exercise. If you just want set-and-forget destruction then sure it is easy to find something awesome in both but if you're a knob-twiddler I'd say Thornoscillator wins. At least for my non-guitar japanoise-worshipping brain.

thanks moozz - thornoscillator it is! harsh japanoise was the exact retardo term for the sound i was looking for. i msg'd MASF about them and theres no sign of anymore being made
